My wife loves to criticize my driving and always remind me of the speed limits as well as always telling me to slow down. She thinks I drive aggressively.

Well we have been in Germany for the past two weeks as we do yearly and this is how ithe conversation went an hour after landing

Wife: Aren't you going a little bit to fast (150km)
Me: No
Wife: I think you are
Me: What is the speed limit?
Wife: there isn't one on this road
Me: Exactly!!!

She didn't like that response ... hahaha

I always get a nice car and tend to stay within 140-180 KM depending on driving conditions. I love the autobahn. She of course hates it.

She does have a point though, I've come around corners to cars completely stopped on the autobahn and that ain't no fun.

My wife was pretty cool on the Autobahn. But then again, she was used to me doing 90+ here on the backroads in my 7-series. We hit very few sections of Autobahn that had no limits, though. Most were in the 120KPH range.

What I love about the Autobahn is the traffic warning system and how it's tied into the nav systems on the cars.

We rented an MB as well. Snappy little car for a 1.8 liter.

I agree - their transportation system is phenomenal compared to the states. I had an 850HP F10 M5 and I hated driving with the wife. She said it made her sick every time I took off. Hahaha

I agree these 1.8L cars have some good power for what they are. I got lucky last time and had an M4. What a blast that was.

I'm back in Germany in July and hoping to rent a M4, 7 or S and have some fun around town.

I think my wife would love the autobahn. She's from Montreal originally, where they are known for aggressive driving in shitty pot holed, ice/snow covered roads. I'm definitely going for a run when I'm in Germany sometime in the spring.

The autobahn is amazing. And drivers are so courteous...well, just well trained as opposed to the mess we have in North America.

You just have to look a lot further down the road for the speed you are traveling.

I was driving through Germany in this Audi A4 on my way to Paris and I was really surprised that it topped out at 225 / 230 km/h on the flat stretches - I did not think it would hit that speed. Got it up to a little over 245 going down a hill.

But on one section of the road, I passed a nice Porsche 911...he was moving at about 160 I would estimate and I just blew past him at 210 or so with a smile on my face. Well, he didn't like that very much and I saw him merge to the left lane and sure enough, he blew past me at well over 210 and just disappeared. Guess he didn't like being passed by an Audi or something.

That was the end of him, or so I thought till I found him a few kilometres down the road where he had slowed back down to 160 or so. So I blew past him again at my constant speed of 210. This must have really pissed him off, because again, he came out into the left lane and he must have really wound it out, because when he passed me, he was going a lot faster than the first time...have no idea what he was doing, but it was really fast.

Never saw him again on that journey.

Back in the 80's when I was stationed there I owned a 633CSi. Gas for us GIs was dirt cheap, like 25 cents a liter, so I had no problem with running that car at 160-200 KPH all day even though it literally sucked gas at those speeds. Back then almost all the Autobahn was speed limit free. Good times.

No offense but that's kind of annoying having someone criticizing your driving all the time. If my gf keeps complaining to me I'd just tell her to either drive herself of gtfo. Fortunately she's been with me blasting through canyon roads often enough to know better.

That picture looks like A6 between Viernheimer kruetz (Mannheim) and Heidelberg just crossing the river.

Man, i gotta go visit my buddy in Germany one of these days. You guys are so lucky to have an autobahn! I would personally cruise around 160kph (100mph) on the daily if i could.

Man, that Pcar dude has srs self-esteem/insecurity issues, quite annoying.

OP, if your wife's constantly nagging you, either you are driving too aggressively (e.g. shouldn't be coming hard around a corner) or she's really mad at you for something else lol.

Ive also had cars purposely hold me back by clogging both lanes for miles on end. Some Americans just think they are entitled to tell you what to do i guess. Thats why i just use the E lane when they piss me off and spray rocks all over their car while doing so.

It's a very structured society and people follow the rules. That in itself would make a huge difference. Even today, I was stuck in the A7 in traffic due to an accident and people were extremely patient, in line, no one merging in and out or riding the emergency lane. It was nice to see, although it took everything I had in me not to do something I'd typically do back in the states. Bahahaha

What's amazing here about these faster cars is that every time I think I am going fast, here comes someone flying by me like I was standing still.
