I watch movies at home all the time. Studios send me screeners all year-round. However, after feeling somewhat underwhelmed by DUNE watching at home, I got the opportunity to attend a screening with Denis Villeneuve and Hans Zimmer over at the Warner Brothers lot. I was blown away. The work they did with music, sound, cinematography etc... they just created an experience that is a MUST for the big screen with the best sound system money can buy.

Denis Villeneuve is on the left, next to the panel moderator, Hans Zimmer is the one wearing the scarf. The producer is between them, and the two on the right are the sound mixer and sound designer.
I agree 1000%. I love the theater and certain movies I will only try to watch at the theater. Sometimes I just get hungry for popcorn and decide what I'm going to watch when I get there lmao!

I want to see the cinemas survive and I'm happy to pay the prices.

Don't Look Up

My wife and I started watching Don't Look Up tonight. Great premise, stellar cast.

Some may like it but we hated it. We kept wanting to care about the characters and the story, but it kept getting worse. Finally after an hour we cut our losses and turned it off! I'm easy to entertain and I don't complain much about movies, but this one was just horrible. It tried to be Dr. Strangelove meets Anchorman. Satire can be an excellent way to get tough messages across, but without compelling character and any measurable amount of humor, Don't Look Up was a huge disappointment to us. Maybe when I have time and in a better mood, I'll watch the rest of it. Right now, I don't care enough to do that.

I watched the trailer and was getting a mixed vibe. I'll give it a try when I have nothing better to do.

Merry Christmas

I actually watched The Celestine Prophecy last night, cheesy as it was. I rather enjoy the books, gives me a little hope for humanity

Probably one of the best movies i've seen this year... yea it's a bit hard core and is definitely a bit political... there are deep undertones towards the Trump presidency and the whole Covid mess but all in all, a lot of ridiculous points made in a good way...

1) Basically... idiots are in charge.
2) Corporations always have a secondary meaning.
3) The media is a joke.
4) We don't care about what's important. No one listens to the experts.

Solid movie... 7/10

Thanks for providing a different perspective. I am still trying to figure out exactly why I hated it so much and your response helped me. You point out that the media is a joke. I agree with that. Nothing we see or hear on the new or via social media is accurate. Everything is twisted to the particular agenda of the entity sending the message. Facts or fact checking is not important. Most everything is over exaggerated to get your attention and to drive home the agenda. Everything is delivered in over-the-top form to amp up the message. Don't Look Up portrays the media in this manner. The irony is Don't Look Up is guilty of those very same attributes.

Just watched Best in Show again, always good for a laugh, especially if you watch 15 minutes of the Wesminister Dog Show first!

Probably will continue the Christopher Guest theme with A Mighty Wind next.

Very cool!
Yes the audio of Dune is amazing.
Was the first film we watched on our newly updated theater.
Actually using similar speakers as WB-Meyer Sound….

Watched The Lighthouse last night. Not for everyone but I enjoyed the film, excellent acting from Dafoe and Pattinson as well.

They should've stopped at Nolan's films. Nothing else will beat those. Why are they doing another one? Has the story changed? OMG…

This looks good. Just last week I rewatched the original with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Loved that one and thought Jack stole the show. One of his best performances IMO.

I'll watch it because it's something to watch. Maybe it will be really good, but I'm not jumping up and down about it.
