Mr. Chauvin's bail is revoked and he will remain in jail until sentenced.

We went on alert Saturday, so anybody in a patrol function will be subject to the 12 hour shifts with no/limited days off should rioting/protesting occur.

Wow, I'm surprised honestly. Didn't think it was going to be guilty, but wasn't sure either.

It's just subsections or degrees. For example, you can be charged with multiple sections of 23152 CVC, misdemeanor drunk driving, on a single DUI arrest.

I'm thinking an appeal will be filed pretty soon.

I'm sure the paperwork is already started, if not ready, to file.

The political pressure was way too strong in the end. Couple that with the possibility of another 2020 and you've got the strong possibility that the verdict was made long before deliberations started.

I expect the deliberations were just to get the jury's ducks in a row for the judge. He was probably guilty in every juror's mind before they left the courtroom.

I agree Sedan. I would also assume that the jurors were extremely worried about what would happen to them/their families if they didn't return a guilty verdict. I didn't follow any part of it but don't envy the heavy weight that fell on everyone's shoulders who were part of the trial.

Given the comments made by political leaders you have a point.

Yeah she does. I would not be surprised, especially considering a pig's head was left at one of the juror's residences. You can't make this stuff up. It's unfortunate we're dealing with this.

There are lots of grounds for appeal. Many came from the actual trial, but the outside interference is challenging. How do you have a fair trail when there is clearly security issues for anyone who may sit on the jury.

So some folks got the conviction they wanted, it may or may not be overturned because of the legal issues/arguments from the evidence or because of interference. I'm not sure how you call this a fair trail and just verdict when there are many things that may have influenced it. The officer may become a sacrificial lamb. I just don't have the sense that justice was served.

In my previous roll working at the coroners office I was attached to the Inquest unit, one of my duties was to pick jury's for inquests. I also was responsible for their security and would stay with them through the whole process, (not deliberations obviously). Some of the cases were quite long and complex and I got to know many jurors well and am friends with a number of them now, years later. I will tell you that I have some very interesting insights and that some juries in high profile cases feel enormous political pressures.

Jurors: let’s just find Chauvin guilty on all charges so Sedan_Clan will have more time answering redundant questions on bimmerpost instead of getting ready for civil unrest.

Jurors: Agreed.

Back on topic now, what’s the most you’ve been bribed with to let someone go?

I did the Ashley Smith inquest. She died in federal prison. It was a complete shit show. 113 Days of evidence over the course of a year. I had to take the whole inquest, lawyers (13 of them), media, Crown attorney, court reporter, Coroner and jury to a federal women's pen. A bit of planning from a security point of view. Trying to maintain a secure situation with not undue influence on the jury was very challenging.

The other issues that were interesting was dealing with the sensitive nature of the evidence. Ms Smith died at her own hand, she was a self harmer using mostly ligatures, because it occurred so often Corrections usually video taped it. Her death was captured on video, as a result of that and then the visit to her cell and all of the other trauma I also found myself dealing with PTSD issues of the jury. The resulting verdict of the jury has changed put in place many changes in Corrections Canada, no more segregation among other things.

Another inquest I did I had to charter airlines and fly the entire inquest into a remote fly-in community on the shores of James Bay in the sub-arctic. Everyone there has a hunting rifle and were pissed off. Another security nightmare.

I'm going to pour another rum now.

It's interesting in the current case that video can seemingly be presented that contradicts how a person feels emotionally (...e.g., the video that showed Chauvin wasn't on Floyd's neck; I didn't watch the trial, but I'm referring to all of the media reports), yet, the person(s) still vote(s) emotionally despite the evidence. It's trying times.
