Has Anyone Done Launch Control?
I had my 1200-mile service done yesterday and tried some procedure I found here to try launch control.
Instead of seeing launch control flag sign showing up, the rear wheel was trying to spin and make brake scratching sound which felt really bad. So I didn't try again. Has anyone successfully done launch control yet? Can anyone share how? Thanks! |

I have my M1 button set-up with everything Sport Plus and DSC off. Car stationary. Press M1 twice, Put the trans in Manual Mode.
Hard down on the footbrake. Snap the throttle pedal down quick. Wait 2 seconds for the rpm to stabilize at 2800. Release brake pedal. If the car is still moving (groaning sound and creeping forward) with the brake pedal down hard, you'll have to burnish the brakes. Then it will hold without moving. |

And manual mode you mean hit gear nob to right once? Or would S1 also work? |

Must be in AWD mode, everything else set to max and S3 manual shifting mode. Mash the pedals hard. It's fantastic! CCBs have no problems holding back the beast, btw.

I think there has been some confusion on what needs to be turned on and in what settings to get launch control to work. There are only a few basic settings that need to set. Have DSC completely off and the gear selector to S3 in 1st. Otherwise, you can experiment in various suspension settings or drive modes.
Here is the excerpt from the manual: Start with launch control 1. Switch on drive-ready state. 2. Deactivate Dynamic Stability Control . 3. Select sequential mode with gear 1 and Drivelogic program S3. 4. With your left foot, forcefully press down on the brake. 5. Press and hold down the accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point at the full throttle position, kickdown. A flag symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster. Keep accelerator pedal in this position. 6. The starting engine speed adjusts. Within 3 seconds, release the brake. The vehicle accelerates. Upshifting occurs automatically as long as the flag symbol is displayed and the accelerator pedal is not released. |

How do the ccb’s feel when engaging LC ? Does the car move any when the rpm goes to 2800-3000 or is it perfectly still ? My steels groaned and the car would slightly creep forward before I burnished the brakes. Now it holds the car still as long as I want to hold it.

what if you're trying to launch using a traffic light? Can you time the release of brake pedal? Instructions say release brake pedal within 3 seconds after accelerator is depressed?

thanks gent, so if you dont engage it within 3 seconds that the manual says, does it fall out of LC or you simply bog when you release brake pedal? It would be nice like on the older version bmw's that you can just have the car sit there until you're ready to launch..

That said, are you really prepared to sit at a light with the engine bouncing off of the launch-RPM-limiter going, "vrum vrum vrum vrum vrum vrum"--it doesn't help our already soiled reputation as BMW drivers. Who am I kidding, I'm the worst offender. You're just gonna have to late-launch if this is important to you... why is this important? |

Not using full power potential on LC?
Just got my M5 F90 and just had did the break in service. I did Launch Control and I also had the sports display up on the monitor so I can see how much horsepower and torque it was using. I was surprised that in first gear when I launched the car it did not use all of its power (450 hp). In fact, the max horsepower my car used was 560 and that was when I reached 5th gear during my launch.. Is this normal? is 600 horsepower only utilized like in 6th gear or something? you would think that the car would utilize all the power when the gas is pushed down all the way, right? Thoughts anyone?
