However, having done what he has, he believes the real sweet spot, especially if you're going to use it as a fair-weathered car, is to look for a 4-5 y.o. used with low miles. He stated the cars will never lose more than 1/2 their value.

I looked online and a 2007 Carrera S still is going for 50k. That is very doable for me, whereas honestly, 100k is not. Not today, and probably not in 5 years. 10? Maybe, but by then I'm sure a new 911 will be over 200.
If you can find one that looks the way you want it to, then awesome.
I am a bit eccentric with my car styling, so I have no choice but to go new (I have a few pics of my porsches in my garage profile, 4 GTS especially).
07 S is a very good car with low problems.
the beauty of a 911 is that can handle the harshest of weathers. I took it through a Montreal winter. I was outpacing 4x4s and Cayennes in snow storm condition with extreme ease. Apparently the new S handles the same. I was having a talk with my sales rep about it. So fair weather or not, if you don't have a family, the 911, if you can afford it, is the way to go.
There is no substitute.

That's strange being the 991 is .20" shorter in height.

odd, it sure looks it.. and the ground clearance, you're right.. it looks higher... the 997 has a better road clearance than my E93.
Also the hood looks bowed out more on the 991.
it has to grow on me a bit I think. I setup a test drive with my dealership for when they get a manual demo in. When I sat in it, it felt less sporty than my 997.

Without a doubt. I saw another 991 on the road today, looks great from all angles. MUCH improved over the last generation(s).

I think the main thing I like about the new 991 is the roofline. The changes are subtle but really this new 991 has a less "bulky" glasshouse. It looks so sleek. I thought the 997 looked good but the 991 really is an improvement:

last one I drove was a supercharged 996 4S and I honestly couldn't tell you if it was worth the money because nothing worked on it (because of the mods)

but from my experience with driving a few Boxter S's The quality is there to justify pricing in my opinion.

I would just get a CPO turbo however. save the money from buying new, and just get the most powerful easy to drive one that you can drive in all weather. (unlike GT3 and GT2) And still have money left over for gas, and a used boat

It is lower because of the suspension plus the windshield has more of a rake than the 997 lowering the roof.
