Newest member of our family!
My dad passed away back in October so not the circumstances under which I wanted to get the car but this arrived today. My dad had a 1997 Z3 2.8 parked in the garage of his vacation home in North Carolina. The car has just shy of 5,700 miles on it and is in excellent shape! Car is arctic silver with red interior...
I need to take it to my local shop to inspect belts, hoses and tires as almost 20 years has passed and the rubber and plastic break down. The pictures are crappy phone pics as the truck arrived as it was getting dark and I wanted to wash the bugs and road grime off. More pics to follow tomorrow...

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure it brings back some good memories of him.
Nice little car.

Very nice. Word of advice from a former Z4 owner; baseball cap and sunscreen. Although being from LA, you probably know that already.
I loved my commute on sunny days when I had the Z4. But I went north in the morning (sun beaming from the east on the right side of my face) and south in the afternoon (sun beaming from the west on the right side of my face). People always wondered why I was sunburned on just half my face.

Sage advice Mark! I have the hat ready... Hopefully the rain holds off tomorrow to take the car out for some fun!

Burnsville, about 40 minutes north of Asheville. He had a home in a development called Mountain Air.... Great place to spend the summer, get away from the heat and humidity of Texas and Louisiana. We'll be back there again in June.

I lived in Asheville for about 20 years - know Mountain Air well. By profession, I am on the Commercial Lending credit approval side for financial institutions. For about 5 years, I worked for a bank that maintained most of the lending relationships with the larger private equity clubs in Western NC. Did you father also fly? Mtn Air had several "small" crashes initially.

No, he did not fly, just loved being in the mountains and he played golf. We love bringing the kids up there as well as they go to camp in NC.
My youngest heads to college in five years so my wife and I are likely to move to Asheville once they are both gone... Mountain Air is great in the summer but not a place we would live year-round.

The Spring, Summer, and Fall are amazing in the Mtns - The winters can be a little frigid and treacherous, especially at that altitude.
Asheville has a GREAT food scene and is home to the Sam Adams of the South (Highlands Brewing Co) and was named Beer City USA twice. One of the best BBQ restaurants I have ever experienced is in Asheville (12 Bones Smokehouse). |

We love Asheville and drive in often when we are in the mountains! I am familiar with Highlands Brewing but have not tried 12 Bones Smokehouse. Will add that to the list for this summer. We will work up an appetite checking out local real estate...

Blue Berry Chipotle BBQ sauce - it will change your life
To enjoy the Z, The Tail of the Dragon is about 1.5 hour drive West from Asheville. Many car enthusiasts make that trip. Recommend that road trip, as well as the road to Highlands, NC (several great waterfalls). Brevard is a great day trip too...Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock... Enjoy! |

I'd love to take the Z3 to the Tail of the dragon but it's down here in New Orleans now. Some day...

Wow, they moved the whole Tail of the Dragon to New Orleans? Now that's quite a project. Must have left a big whole where it used to be.

Oh, so you're all set. You have the Dragon's Tail and the car in NO. Piece-o'-cake. Get out there tomorrow (if your head is clear ) and run the DT.

Sorry for your loss... Enjoy your new car though; at least your inherited car is snazzy and sporty; my old man left me a Dodge Dakota (but on the bright side that's how I afforded a down payment for my E90).
