E60 Water Pump and IBS Codes, Unregistered Battery
In the middle of diagnosing other issues, but found water pump and IBS codes. Wondering if I'll be needing to replace the water pump soon.. Codes are:
2E83 - Electric Water Pump, Reduced Power Operation 2E85 - Electric Water Pump, Communication 2E8B - Intelligent Battery Sensor, Signal 2E8D - Intelligent Battery Sensor, Signal Transmission Had to replace the battery three months ago, but never registered the new one with the car. Battery was from interstate, dunno the specs compared to the OEM, but I do know it was slightly smaller (had to move the bolt holding the battery to a different position). Wondering if not registering the battery could cause these faults, or what might otherwise be going on.. |

I don't think they're related to your battery replacement. IBS failures are common, many E60 owners just delete it altogether. How many miles are on the car? Is it the original water pump? I think your IBS is shot and your water pump is on the way out.

Car has 150K miles. I am the second owner and purchased at 82K. I know the first owner was meticulous about servicing it at BMW, but I do not recall nor have the specific records on hand. Without calling to get them, my guess is that it is the original water pump.
How is the IBS deleted? |

150K on the original water pump is well beyond typical service life. Even if it was replaced at 82K before you bought it, it's due for one again in my opinion. I would replace it.
There are several threads regarding IBS delete, a google search should give you all the info you need. good luck with your E60! |
