Need Opinions on Our Next Wagon

I currently have an F31 and love the car but it's time to get the next car. Wagons are a must for us.
If only BMW would bring its G31 to the USA. But since that is not an option in the coming year my choices are

Mercedes Benz E400 Wagon
Or
Volvo V90 Wagon

I like to go to the next size up from the 3 series to something bigger in the back seat and the trunk.
What do you guys think should be my next wagon and why?

The new Volvo V90 looks sexy as all get out. That powertrain and reliability scares me, though. My dealer groups has a Volvo store, and they are seeing lots of issues with the new XC90. Not sure how well that bodes for the V.

I'd stay away from the V90 for a year or two my Volvo people tell me bad things and there are some reliability kinks to work out.

If you don't mind used the AMG wagons drop fast in value you could pick up a nice CPO one that's a year old for a steep discount.

I got to walk around and sit in a V90 at a car show a year or so ago and was extremely impressed. Comfort/looks/technology for a wagon was really impressive.

Of those two I'd pick the merc all day. Performance, styling. Not a volvo fan. They're safe. But i never have seen them excel otherwise.

We only have T5 and T6 announced yet. T8 might be the next year.

That's unfortunate. Tough call between the E400 4MATIC and V90 T6 AWD.

I'd probably end up with the Mercedes by a hair.

Also one cool feature is that 3rd row jump seat for very rare occasional use.

If you can wait just a little longer, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake Wagon would be another option.

My last car was an 06' Volvo V70 AWD. Great car to drive, comfortable and reasonable on fuel. I ended up having to get rid of it due to maintenance and repairs. I don't know if I had a lemon or what, the thing was great for almost 10 years and 160,000km (100,000 miles) and then it just started killing me in repairs. Finally at 215,000km it dropped two valves and spit them out through the turbo.....the repair was a nightmare so I traded for a MB GLK BLUETEC. I really liked the Volvo but don't think I'd go down that road again. I do get the wagon thing though, I'd have loved to get another one.

I like the old wagons of the late 60s early 70s. They had utility. We had a '70 grand torino that had seating for 6 adults, 2 kids, and you could fit a full sheet of plywood or sheetrock in the back plat to the cargo area floor and still close the back door. Now you can only do that in a full size pickup or similar.

Woah! I did not know that. And the fact that they could have diesels. Will have to dig around for more information. Thanks!

Radio-Flyer is the ONLY wagon to buy. Everything else is derivative.

I just saw the first test drive results coming out in the media. They all just love it and rightfully so.

If I had that kind of money in a year I definitely will. Ha! One can dream of a lottery win.

As good as this new S213 E63 Estate may be - and I'm sure its amazing - I would take an S205 C63 Estate instead if given the choice. Of course, the latter is not sold in the US, so there's that little issue.

Audi and BMW, please take note
It seems BMW has bowed out of the super-wagon game indefinitely. Well, they had only ever produced two generations of M5 Touring, and never an M3 Touring other than the one-off E46 M3 Touring Concept, so they were arguably never committed to begin with. Though to be fair they do have Alpina to pick up the ball for them in that regard.

Audi on the other hand is very much in the game, with the both the existing C7 RS6 Avant and a brand new B9 RS4 Avant coming soon. We'll never see either of them in the US though, sadly.

That Vista Cruiser equivalent was actually a 2wd pickup truck with an integrated cap and fold down seats in the bed.
