No. It isn't. I gave over half away.

I'll always make more money and buy more things. My peace of mind is invaluable.

I was doing the work, house, save money etc thing. I was stuck on that treadmill. All with the hopes that I would be happy at some point in the future if I did all this stuff. In the meantime I was miserable and hated my jobs so I bought crap I didn't need for that momentary shot of dopamine. Then my father died.

I've never had anyone that close to me die except for my uncle back when I was still in college. Although I had been wanting a change for a while I think that was the trigger. He was super excited to retire and although he had his own business he kept putting it off to save some more money. Never got to retire, same with my uncle.

I'm not making the same mistake. A few months later I got laid off. Instead of finding another job I focused on my side business I had started a few years back and focused on growing my freelance business. For maybe like 6 months I lived off that business and supplemented it with my savings. Now I work my businesses full time and focus on work that will generate the most $$ for the least amount of time. Since I can run my business from anywhere we travel around the country in our rv for around 6 months out of the year.

Wether the fact that I was focused on my business fulltime or just luck. I actually make more now than I ever did at any previous job I've had and I work a fraction of the time I use to. That being said I try to save as much as I can now that the money is coming in. I also try to make moves that will hopefully put me in a good position were the shit to hit the fan, because I don't think I could ever go back to the 9-5 grind.

I feel like I have been in a daze for the past 15 years and finally woke up 4 years ago.

All that being said do what makes YOU happy. I know people who do enjoy their careers and get a lot of fulfillment from moving up in the company and stuff like that. Or from their family, having kids etc. Do what makes you happy and do it now, stop putting it off, even if it's hookers and blow.
This is very similar to what i am experiencing, my aunt died 1 year prior to her retirement and she was really looking forward to it, this really hit me hard thinking about life and what position i am in. I have a good job, I am healthy but i don't want to think that i will retire at 70, what if we don't make it that far. I know there is a purpose for every one of us on this earth, some work 9-5 and others do other things to make a living and enjoy life.. I agree do what makes you HAPPY and you ENJOY, don't let the life live you, live the life you want..

I've had two goals starting college, one was to found my own company and drop out to move to the Valley. Given i'm almost done with college and still in the midwest that's going fairly well.
Another was to live the american dream for a foreign college student. That is to join a frat, meet a lot of chicks and have a lot of fun. Did that, but got boring real fast. Also life became real too quick too, after my first year I realized if I kept that going I'd be kicked out of school and disowned. I can still shotgun a beer very fast though.

In terms of material goals, I have 3 big ones. 1 was to get myself a rolex before i graduate college (accomplished, shoutout to bitcoin), 2 is to get a porsche 911 of any kind before i'm 35, and retire in LA with a nice house in the hills, and with a ferrari 550 maranello in grigio ingrid. specifically that color because i love it - working towards the remaining two

i realize these make me sound very shallow but it's what it is all I know is the stuff I want to do requires a lot of capital (cars and nice homes), so I need to work a lot. I also know that I can't do the "normal lifestyle" thing and something's always gotta be changing, even if small details, to keep me happy

I would say the older I get; the less I care about physical items... it's almost as if more money is needed when you are young to have flashy items and "stunt" and later in life that money is needed just for comfort and security. I am 31 and I've owned 11 cars, have Rolexes, lived in city centers and have traveled the world to about 30 countries. I think this is all fantastic but in the end for me it's already done and all getting super old... I kind of just want to get married, have kids and be left alone somewhere in a medium market city... even if with middle class salaries.

And I know this will sound heretic but I genuinely think cars are slowly but surely either becoming a thing of the past or incredibly outplayed with the current social media gen... I almost want to not be associated with any car event, car culture or automotive lifestyle in general.

I would say my ultimate life goals are to be happy, have unlimited time to spend time with my familly and not ever have to worry about money.

Be healthy enough to grow old with my wife and enjoy watching our daughter grow up and be happy.

The money, cars, experiences are all great, but secondary to the above.

Seen one of my biggest goals get accomplished this past weekend. I gave my daughter away in marriage to a great guy that she has been with since 9th grade in high school as boyfriend/girlfriend before they could date.

I have had custody of her since she was 7, and tried my best to instill in her a set of values that I have always followed. She started working from an early age as I wanted her to know that she could stand on her own two feet without support from anyone ,and that nothing in life comes easy or free.

She completed her undergrad and had a job offer before graduation, and currently working in a Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Starting graduate school this fall and plans to eventually become a PA.

The guy she married is already in graduate school and works in pharmaceuticals doing R&D work.

They have already bought their first house, and currently honeymooning in the Dominican Republic.

My only goal that I have at the moment is to finish paying off my last debt (Mortgage) and keep building my retirement investments.

I have always been so caught up in advancement in my career, but this weekend I realized that it's not as important as I thought it was. I have no control over a lot of things that may happen, so why get so involved in things that I can't affect. That's been my biggest adversary for awhile.

I'm in a comfortable spot, and I can be content with that. The lure of material things are slowly fading away from me...now I want to create memories that I will always be able to look back at and have a smile brought to my face.

Hard to set goals for my entire life all at once. In the meantime I want to focus more on myself and enjoying life instead of working/stressing so much. I'm taking a vacation mid-June, I haven't taken a day off that wasn't a sick day for over 3 years.

I don't remember 99% of the crap I've bought over the years, but I remember the experiences I've had. I had a coworker once who told me, I hate my job so I spend all my money buying shit to make me feel better about my shit job. I totally agree and over time the dopamine kick you get from buying crap gets less and less.

As for cars they are still my achilles heel, however for me it's more about the activities surrounding the car. Washing it, fixing it, going to the track, more so than buying the car itself. I've always loved cars and unfortunately getting older has not changed that.

It's a work in progress.

Which is exactly why I love cars more now than ever. F this social media gen fake azz nonsense. I'm going to let a bunch of moronic, debt laden millenials sway my opinion of cars with fake votes on Facefail and all the other BS they waste their lives on? No sir!

Pay off mortgage
Proverbs 22:7
The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

I want to be free from owing anyone anything so I can show people what life is like living without debt. And how following and submitting to the Lord can bring peace to not only your life but to others as well.
