As the State of California burns yet again due to mis-management by the state, the Governor felt it necessary to sign a bill yesterday (Saturday!)...banning the sale of fur products in their state! No, you can't make this stuff up:

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/calif...b02c9da04b47bc

If anyone in California is looking for a replacement material for their fur products, I highly recommend three layers of Nomex as appropriate outerwear....

As parts of the State of California sit in darkness due to mis-management by the state, the Governor felt it necessary to sign a bill yesterday (Sunday!)...requiring all public high schools to start classes no earlier than 8:30 AM! No, you can't make this stuff up:

Glad to see that the California government has their priorities straight.....

I thought you were in Oxnard. Fire was in Granada Hills & Sylmar, 40-50 miles from Oxnard. Did you move closer to LA?

We also passed a law outlawing lunch shaming and no fur sales. It’s a good thing we don’t fund law enforcement enough so there’s no nance in hell anyone is going to get busted for half of this stuff.

Newbury Park had one as well, but it was smaller and got controlled a bit faster. The winds were blowing DOWNHILL toward the Pacific, so didn't move as fast. We also had a homeless encampment source of a fire in the Santa Clara River that is less than 5 miles from my house. The bridge between Oxnard/Ventura had to be closed down so fire dept. could spray from the deck.

Ahh gotcha, Saddleridge sort of took most of the news coverage in my neck of the woods. Didn't hear about that fire. Hope the air isn't still too bad out your way. San Fernando Valley is getting better, but can still smell the fire pretty well. Being the aviation dork I am, it's interesting to see all of the aircraft fighting this.

I actually played soccer Friday night, couldn't smell a thing. There have been times, both playing and ref, when we shut down play due to smoke.

Now the issue is they are beginning to harvest the "hemp" in the local fields. Smells so good!

Was weird, seeing this combine I normally associate with rows of corn, moving thru the fields of mini Christmas trees.

Surprised they’d use a combine for that; would expect something to cut it at the base so it could be dried, like tobacco is (hand work mostly). Maybe marijuana is differently harvested than hemp?

I'm pretty sure that harvester behind the combine (maybe I"m using that name wrong) grinds it all up, since the end market is CBD oil. This is NOT destined for the dispensaries.

Typically, shorter hemp crops like Finola can be harvested with most modern combines with little or no modification. Use draper headers for straight combining as they feed the combine more uniformly.

Clearly I’m going to have to do some investigating. You know, field trips. To see how hemp and marijuana are grown, harvested and processed!

While the state of California was blacked out and on fire, their governor decided to sign Senate Bill #24 into law...requiring that abortion medications to be available on campus at all public colleges/universities:

You can't make this stuff up.....
