I'm tired of being raped by my cable company.

What are you guys paying? Here's my rundown:

UVerse

TV U200 $83
Service/Products $9
Equipment $20
Surcharges $11
Government Fees $27

Internet Max Turbo $67
Equipment $7

Voice $37

1) I don't use voice, but I need it for my security system
2) My internet connection is barely 20mbps, bullshit
3) What the hell are surcharges? Isn't that just a fancy name for "extra shit we just tack on so we can get your money"?

I feel like I'm just getting ripped off. Anyone else cut the cord? Maybe I should go full streaming.

Fuck, you are getting raped.

You don't need voice for any legit security company...they can use Internet.

I pay $140 for Uverse 300, full HD, sports package, 4 wireless receivers with DVR and 30mbps internet.

My HOA includes fiber to my house which is nice. Total 84.

I don't need voice. My security leverages internet.

Only tv I pay for is sling and Netflix. Amazon technically but there are other benefits.

Oh and Kodi but that's free.

If you're with Comcast you have to call them once a year. I have internet only with them. Every year I get a bill for $70 something a month. I call them and ask for whatever promotion is available. They then drop my rate to below $50/month. A year later repeat. It's stupid but I've done this 4-5 years straight now, works every time.

Do you mind posting a breakdown from your bill kind of like I did? I want to see exactly where they are raping me.

I dropped cable almost 2 years ago. I have Netflix, Hulu and piggy back on someone's Amazon prime. Less than 20 a month.

Cut the cord some months ba. Don't miss it one bit. Only pay like $50 a month for 100mbps Internet to support all the streaming and surfing I'd need.

I was tired of rising prices and keep having to call in for promo pricing.

Tom Leykis does a thing almost every week about cord cutting.

www.blowmeuptom.com or I listen to his radio show in the TuneIn Radio app.

The GF pays for Netflix and then her friend lets us piggyback off their Amazon. Ultimately none as needed for me as I've got an $80 Android dongle (it's an older MK908ii but it still gets the job done) that makes any TV with an HDMI port into essentially a smart TV, came with a wireless remote and then I installed a bunch of TV/movie apps, most importantly being Showbox that has everything I've ever wanted that I've seen on Amazon and Netflix...but for free.

Curious about what all of you guys who have cut the cord do about local news.

I have considered cutting the cord and just paying for internet service from my current provider (Fios), but I have a habit of playing the local news channels in the background while I exercise. Other than that, I probably have about 8 channels provided by Fios that I frequent and most of that content can be found on NETFLIX or Amazon, which I have as well through my Xbox.

Please let me know if any of you who have freed yourselves from cable do about local news, or if you just use your phones to keep up with news and weather. Thanks.

$147 a month for basic HD, basic internet, and equipment through Cox.

It's bullshit, but I like the background noise when I'm doing other things, local news, etc.

I just pay for 250mbps (10mbps up) internet now ($70). I have PS Vue ($30), Netflix UHD ($12), Amazon Prime ($8.50 or so, really for more than video) and CBS ($10) (CBS not on PS Vue in DC). That puts me at $130 for internet and all those services. I don't feel like I am missing any TV that I want to watch.

It is always good to see what your local provider is offering as far as new customers are concerned. You may quadruple your bandwidth for the same money by simply doing a one year contract. I was at 50mbps and saw ads for much higher speeds on the same tier I was on, so called and complained.

There is no motivation their part to improve your service if you keep paying them. They know you don't really have any other options where you live. The CATV/internet is run like a cartel or gang. They each have their own turf so, it's not like you can call Comcast, TimeWarner, AT&T, FiOS etc to find the best offer like you would a cell phone plan.

Oh and do not rent their equipment. You will save money by simply buying your own cable modem and router. They wanted like $10 a month in rent. I made up the difference within eight months and am still using the cable modem I bought 18 months ago. Just try to buy the newest/fastest one that is on their approved equipment list.

If you buy an antenna you will get all the local stations (Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, PBS) and some others. I use it in conjunction with streaming.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into this.

Any recommendations on quality antennas?

I live in Queens, NY, if that makes any difference

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I was in much worse shape. Total wireless bill, all in was about $340...I just paid it and didn't care until I started looking at cable, internet, wireless and ancillaries as a communications budget. This was an eye opener. I was basically paying about $11K per year for comm. Yes. I was stuck on the idiot channel because everything was separate. To make a long story short I spent over an hour on the phone with COX (Cocks) and went from multiple DVRs to the whole house system along with top level internet and phone for about $160. Phone bill went from $450 for 4 lines, all iPhones to $250. The moral of my story is that these bills start low and creep up until there's a WTF moment.

Cheers, Doc.

I agree it is a ton of money but man it's tougher to cut than I thought. i cut the cable two months ago and it is a bit of a PITA. I have Netflix and an android box.

Problem number one is there are still times i want live TV, now I am not Canadian so don't really need live sport outside of motorsport so on paper this works for me but in the last two weeks just wanted to check out the masters and the F1 races and what a fucking hassle on the android box.

Problem number 2, when you unbundle your internet costs go throught the roof, it's fuckign crazy. I went from $130 a month for Cable and internet to $90 a month just for internet.

Problem 3,so you say Ok i'll change to a cheaper ISP, yeah great but now you need a modem, router and install fees so it's a full fuckign year before you even break square ffs.

Problem 4, I figure regular OTA TV will solve a lot of issues but fuck me, my house is finished so now i am running coaxle through the fucking walls and not to mention the cost of install and hardware for an ariel.

On paper it take sa solid 2 to 3 years years to break square.

A lot of folks in my town have put up digital antennas. I was talking to a guy from Bell TV a few weeks back and he was telling me that even he has one. Gets 15 channels in HD for free, so all the local programming/news etc. I'm in the process of doing that, I have Netflix, Amazon and Crave TV. With that and a few other movie sites I have all I need. I have decent internet with unlimited data so that's about $100 a month.

I'm with ya though I dont pay anywhere near what some of you guys have mentioned I still think its overpriced. Not to mention that these companies have a monopoly over my area. I dont pay so much for cable, I have the very basic package as I NEVER watch TV but my Internet is what drives my bill to about $120/month. The bill goes up every $5-$10 dollars every year.

There are plenty of other non mainstream companies that have cheaper plans which dont need to be super fast net yet somehow they don't offer coverage in my area. A quick 10 min search of 5-6 different companies and I notice that somehow Comcast is the ONLY company allowed to provide service in my neighborhood. As long as my netflix/streams and my ps4 online does not lag I do not need top of the line internet.

Damn, y'all getting raped on your internet speeds. I pay $47 a month for 100 Mbps internet. I don't pay for cable, too fucking expensive. I can find what I want to watch elsewhere for cheaper.
