Yeah. The moment anyone finds out about a software update, make sure you post it on E90 Post! Maybe we should start a new thread about it...

By the way, Bimmer325, don't worry about it too much. It's not that bad - I didn't even notice it until crazybones mentioned it. A software update will fix it soon i'm sure - and it's a wonderful engine!

WOW that is one beautiful looking car! I have owned 2 black cars in the past and they are very hard to keep clean, but really: Does ANY car look better when clean than a black one? I don't think so!

Congrats!!

I would echo that remark - it's a superb car. It's one niggle that happens to fall at 80mph in 6th gear which is usual motorway cruising speed down here

On a positive note, the pull from 4000 to 7000 rpm is superb. Also, launching the car from standstill is impressive - there's far more pull low down in the rev range.

Regarding the missing torch!! Phoned the dealer and he told me that they no longer come with torches in the uk?!?!?! However he did let me "steal" the torch from the e46 I traded in!! So at least I have one!

But personally I think the dealer is at it!!

Did all you UK buyers get your torches free and automatically??

Thanks for the reassurance guys.

I'm 24 and this is gonna be my first proper car. So you can imagine my horror when I start reading threads talking about engine flat-spots. I had test driven the Audi A4 and Jag X-Type and decided to go for the BMW mainly for the engine and handling. Then I read some of the messages on this forum and start think "hmmm.....maybe I should've gone for the Audi instead...."

Oh well......if its not as bad as its sounds then I guess its something I could live with. Just hoping an update is issued before my car goes into production.

BTW any UK owners with Nav Pro? Does RDS work properly? Anyone tried MP3 CD's with Navi - getting the same result as our American cousins?

nexus66 - Mine came with a torch!

Bimmer325iSE - I had the Audi on 24 hour test prior to ordering the E90. You've made the right choice. Audi was more cramped and is not in the same league for handling.

Don't worry about the flatspot!! You'll probably find that lots of other engines have 1 (or more!) of these as well! And honestly it's not actually that bad, I'd say it could be described as an ever so slight hesitation as you pull up through the rev range!

And regarding the Audi... Audi FWD - BMW RWD : Makes all the difference!

Hi - have a look at E90Fleet's post in this thread:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1468

New software version 17.1 - only fix is "small fix for a eronious european N52 VANOS fault". Our engines are n52's I believe. Is this a flatspot cure?????

Sounds like it might well be!! N52 sounds right for the engine, and vanos controls the valves, so any small problems here could manifest themselves as a flatspot!

Looks promising - so who's volunteering??

I've posted in that thread asking if E90Fleet has any more detail.

No luck - E90Fleet has advised that it's a fix for early cars which are hard to start and/or run rough

I think the "Professional" radio comes as standard in all e90's!! (Unless you get iDrive/Nav)

Thanks for the pics of the 160 wheels............I'm going to go for them as they're a rare sight in the UK.

I clean my cars every week so I'm not worried about the wheels dusting up!

As for the torch issue.....my dealer told me that the torch is not supplied with the car anymore but the socket is there........a bit of penny-pinching here I think!!! When you spend almost £30k on a car you'd think they could include the torch.........come on BMW....think of your customers!

My father has just taken delivery of a new 530i and again it has no torch! A quick word with the dealer and they gave him one free but the Parts Department wanted £22.95 for one!

Anyway, can't wait for my E90 to arrive!

I love the clear turning lights in the front. I wish wish wish that they had something out here in the US to change that. I would def do it the second it came out. Beauitful car!

Thanks Bella, I know what you mean about the clear at the front - I'd be soooo miffed to have the amber that you have in the states!!

I had set my heart on the black line rear lights, but after seeing the pictures posted by Tierfreund, I'm not convinced. I think completely clear indicators on the rear (to match the reversing light) would be better (even on a black car), so hopefully someone will bring out aftermarket ones (take note BMW). Then I'd only be concerned about the quality, but surely whoever brings them out will make them high quality ones.

Glad you like the 160's - they are rare. I don't think many people upgrade the alloys. Every other E90 I've seen has 16" wheels! Be warned - they do take some cleaning though!

Penny pinching indeed - my E46 318 came with the torch! Absolutely ridiculous that a £25K+ car has it missing!! And £23 for a torch is pretty steep - make sure you get one free seeing as your dad did!!

Nexus66,

What cleaning product do you use on the 160s out of interest? They look imaculate in the pics...............bet your neighbours are envious!

On my 17" seven star spoke alloys on my E46, I've been using Autoglym 'Clean Wheels' with reasonable success and Wonder Wheels if they're really dirty but I'm worried about what it's doing to the lacquer.

Finally, is your E90 fitted with sports suspension? It's difficult to tell in the pics.

Mainly I just use wash and wax! It's only if I start to see a build up of brake dust that I dig out the Autoglym Clean Wheels! I have a good alloy wheel cleaning brush which I use for the spokes after sponging the rest of the wheel. Its hard to describe, but the handle has a twisted loop of wire with bristles coming out all the way round. It's kinda the shape of a hangman's noose!

I too worried about the harshness of using a wheel cleaner all the time, but I'd say you only need to use one every 3 or 4 times you wash the car! Try it!

Nah - just normal suspension. I would've liked the SS, but the ride is actually quite firm given the runflats, so I'm not too sad that the wife wouldn't let me get it!
