You have to go to the menu and set flash control on 100% manual first. Then you can press the little flash button thing after you set it on the manual mode.

I figured how to take good low-light shots after tinkering around with a D50 for a few hours. |

What lens are you using BTW? To take low light shots without a flash, you're gonna need faster glass that will allow more light in (e.g. 50MM 1.8). Oh, and a tripod That of course assume your cat will stay perfectly still for the shot! |

The kit lens isn't bad at all... but it at f3.5, it isn't nearly as capable low light as something like a f1.8. Of course, this is all trade-offs were talking here. When you shoot wide open at f1.8, your DOF is gonna be very small. As in, you might focus on the eyes of your cat, but the rest of his/her body is gonna be blurry. A quick and easy way to solve for dark photos -- levels and curve adjustments post processed. Example, your photo edited in 2 seconds in Photoshop just to brighten and white balance ... |

use Av or Tv with flash (or M).. it will use the flash as a fill. P or auto will not let the shutter speed go slower than 1/60sec
i would invest in a nice flash (if you take alot of low light shots) before a new lens. i cant believe i went for 1.5 years without one without flash... [I] crank up the iso (400 or 800) open up the aperture about as wide as it goes (f/3.5 in your case) and mess with the shutter speed. also may i suggest some good reading: http://anandtech.com/digitalcameras/showdoc.aspx?i=2838 http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htm talks about exposure...will teach you how to work around your light meter also read the manual about your light meter settings..good stuff to know http://photonotes.org/ ^^lots about canon stuffs http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ ^^lots of good tutorials Last edited by jadeddjay; 12-04-2006 at 06:14 PM.. |
