Dashcams and IBS Sensor....

Hi All,

I've posted this in here as I'm not sure if all BMW's would be the same, I suspect they will......

I have a 2008 E60 Lci and I'm looking to install a dashcam. This is the sort that requires to be hardwired, and has such things as the knock sensor which auto records if the vehicle is hit etc.

My concern (and question) is, how do we hard wire this in without having a constant idrive message about 'high battery drain'?

I've read posts from a f10 having the same trouble, but don't know if a) there is a way or b) whether it would be the same on a E60?

Any advice welcomed.

TIA.

Some cams are wired with two power circuits. One requires constant 12v and one which connects to "key on" power. The cam knows when the car is off and switches to minimal power consumption/standby for the features like impact detection etc. Or the cam may have a built in backup battery for operation when the ignition is off.

If your cam doesn't do that, then it may pull enough power to cause the IBS to throw a fault for excessive discharge. Some cams pull higher current than others.

If you want the cam to maintain operation when the ignition is off, I can't think of a way to get around the current drain.
