First time BMW buyer - worried parking anywhere - NJ

Got my new BMW, however whenever I have to park car outside other than my house, I get concerned that
what if someones puts a ding or scratches or hits during parking next to it
and if I'm inside mall - keep on worrying if car if fine :P
Any suggestions ??

Not sure, if anyone experiences this or its just me.

Disclaimer:
( well I'm in NJ and it has the highest density population by area and though I love NJ ( and its beaches )
but finding rash, aggressive drivers, wrong overtakes is no surprise here
Also weekends most of the malls parking lots would be full.

NJ is not nearly as bad as NY. You guys mostly all have parking in lots not like street parking in NY.

NYC has the highest population density not NJ LOL

If I want to go places where know I have to street park I take a uber plain and simple or pay for garage parking.

At the end of day its only a car. Invest in a clear bra

Congratulations on your new car. Just do reasonable thing like search a bit longer for a suitably-wide spot and park straight in the middle of the space. After that, don't worry. Its really just another car and not worth undue anxiety.

In NYC, fagetaboutit.. all the cars are dinged yers will be too..
but in NJ just
1) park as far away as you can in isolation
2) find a FAT spot where doors from either side cannot "possible" hit you
3) park next to equally or more valuable cars than yours
4) park next to "well-taken care of autos"

Which is pretty much a nonstarter statement anyway for two reasons:
- State vs. city (duh ... been established)
- 7 of the top 11 most densely populated incorporated areas are in New Jersey but are part of the New York Metropolitan Statistical Area.

(I mean, sheesh: Jersey has the Jets AND the Giants, and the MetroStars/Red Bulls ... yet they're 'New York' teams? That's a generations-old WTF? right there ...)

Bought mine brand new last year, street parked it for 10 months before I found a garage. Yeah, the bumper is dinged up... shit happens. It's a car that I daily- it isn't a garage queen. You should buy a Honda next time.

I park far away and often in the end spots so that I can park close to the curb which leaves a lot of space on the other side. Call me a douche but if there's an empty parking lot I'll double park, although that could attract some jackass to come key my ride. I'm very obsessive about keeping my cars in tip top shape. They are regularly hand washed and detailed. The interiors get the full treatment every 3 months, I don't think I've ever eaten inside any of my cars...

I know it's off-task, but I'm dying to know what he has under there - says it is a new car, but that big rear spoiler has me thinking old Trans Am.

And to the thread topic - I'm getting over my paranoia slowly (11months so far, only walk out to check it about once a week now) - helps that a buddy only had his car 3 days before it's first major ding (9" crease, not a little divot). I console myself that I've already gone farther w/o one than many, so if it happens I won't feel so wronged. And especially at work, I try to park back-in, so I'm passenger door-to passenger door and leave less space than on the drivers side - few people have passengers for our workplace, so I figure it gives me more room.
