Knowing nothing about your priorities for the watch purchase, I would have to say the Omega, provided it's one that has the co-axial 8500 movement (or a variant thereof) inside. That is one of the world class movements and is on par with stuff form brands costing thousands more, and that's before even considering the discount one can get either from an AD or a grey market seller.

There are fancier and pricier watches than Omega's, but the Seamaster is among the best watches one can buy. It also happens to be one of the best values in watches at the moment.

Here's some reading that you may not have encountered.
http://www.watchtime.com/reviews/mas...er-aqua-terra/
http://www.watchtime.com/reviews/san...ng-superocean/

All the best.

PS
Prior to the 8500, there was the 2500 co-axial movement. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's not in the league of the 8500. Omega have been spreading the 8500 across its product range. I don't know how far they are in that process, but I do know the 8500 is the one to get, so I'd check to make sure when buying.

FWIW, for it has nothing to do with the watches themselves, neither brand has a bad name, and Omega by far has greater brand recognition and arguably is more fondly regarded.

Yes, see above post for reference. Also doesn't help to have john travolta as your spokesperson, scientology and oil wrestling.

I personally like Breitling because I'm fascinated with their history, being the first watch company to develop a watch with its own independent chronograph push piece and reset push piece. I also love how aviation plays such a strong part of their bold design and direction for technological innovation.

I myself wanted to get the B01 once they created their own in house movement (actually got it as a wedding gift!), and my brothers picked up the diver pro II bracelet for my 30th. Really love it and it's super comfortable to wear.

It all really depends on what you want as @tony20009 says. Just do some research and see what appeals to you

If you're going to get either one, don't buy it new or you'll lose a ton of money on them. I just picked up a used Panerai and couldn't be happier.
Check out www.watchrecon.com and you can search for the specific watch you're interested in. Plenty of Omega and Breitling's available.

I just picked this up:

Superocean Heritage 46 Chronograph

I love it so far. Great quality and superb looks. I was considering this one and the Navitimer but ended up with this one as I opted for simpler design.

I think Omega offers more classic designs, while Breitling offers more trendy and flashy designs. It comes down to your preference and I think both brands offer great quality. I also was considering Omega along with TAG but ended up with Breitling as I already have a Montblanc for classic design and wanted something that pops out more. TAG just seemed too common these days and it looks like they put more money into marketing than the quality of their watches these days.

Anyway, can't go wrong with either brand.

My thoughts also. I think omega has a simple classic look to far more of its watches, while breitlings are busy and well overdone. I often forgo chrono function in order to have a simpler look. Chrono serves no function at all in real life. Who wears a watch while racing their car and trys to time laps instead of using actual data aquisition?

It all comes down to personal style. Both are quality time pieces. I have three Omega's.

Panerai is another brand that I love. If I were to get another watch it would be a Panerai. Their styling is very unique and I love their leather straps. The Luminor 1950
Chrono Monopulsante GMT is really nice. What model did you get? Care to share any pics?

On another note, any Bell & Ross fans out there? Another brand I love whose designs are also based on aviation. Too many nice watches out there-

I got a Panerai PAM 111. I just think it's a classic design and I love it! I can't wait to get some extra bands as well.
Here are a couple pics of my collection. Funny you should say Bell & Ross. I have a BR01-92 PVD with a custom Cordura band along with two Daytona's and a Submariner Date Green face/bezel.

I have a B&R as well.. as BR01-93 (GMT version... good for tracking zulu time when flying)

My next watch is going to be a Ball... I like purpose driven, proven performance watches for my field.

OP, I see you're active here with 900+ posts. Do yourself a favor and visit a couple watch forums and Hodinkee to make an informed decision beyond the input you've received here.

Watches are very particular and their owners even more. You have to define what you want out of the watch before you settle on the winner. A watch travels with you and if you will "speaks" for your personal taste much more directly than your vehicle (mentioning this as we're on an enthusiast car forum). You leave the car in the lot/garage but the watch goes with you on the date, to the party, meeting etc.

Have fun getting a new watch - it's quite exciting!

I guess it comes down to personal style. Nobody's going to say that either isn't a quality product, Breitling tends to be a little bigger, flashier, and more ornate. Omegas are a little more understated and elegant. Do you see yourself as more of a vintage Aston Martin type, or someone who lusts after an Italian sports car?

Personally I think you couldn't go wrong with pretty much anything in Omega's lineup - Speedmaster is a great sporty watch with undeniable history and heritage; or a Seamaster is almost dressy enough to fit in any occasion. But that is *my* opinion...

I guess the James Bond marketing tie in actually turned me off of Omega a little bit... but I still want a Speedmaster badly.

Both!

Personally, I would don the Omega Seamaster Professional black like the one above on 41mm and Breitling Superocean 42 in diver strap for the weekends

Both you can have for the same price of an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean which has gone bulky with the 8500 and ceramic bezel, price has gone up tenfold too. It was around 3k when it came out 2006

I cannot fathom getting a Planet Ocean for 6.2K where the Rolex Submariner is around 7.5k
