What's the best way to apply contact lenses?

WTF??? Is there anything on earth more frustrating than trying to get a tiny piece of silicone into your eye?

Who has the secret of getting the damn things to not stick to your finger?

I learned that don't allow your finger to touch the eyeball. I just started wearing contacts and the trick I learned at least for me is once the contact makes contact with your eye it should take. Almost like a suction. If you press and your finger makes contact with your eyeball I notice it sticks to your finger tip

Another pointer is make sure your fingertip that holds the contact is somewhat dry and not wet

Make sure your finger is dry under the contact lens, and place it on your finger tip. It must look like a bowl on your finger tip with out any of the edge folded over. Hold both lids open so you can’t blink. It’s best to hold along with the eye lash. Insert lens making sure to clear eye lashes. It should suction once close enough.

Once in don’t blink right away. Look up, down, left and right before you blink to make sure lens is seated correctly.

Open your eye, stick that little bitch right on your pupil. Done. Lol kidding but that's atleast what it seems like for me after wearing them for a decade.

Like others mentioned keep the finger that you're using to put the contact in dry. Have it barely touching and place it in. Should take. If your eyes are dry prior to putting them in throw a pop of solution in them.

Considered lasik for a while now. Would love not to have to fiddle with contacts and glasses. I just got daily contacts though and they're amazing can't even tell that they're in

Thanks. Same advice Wifey keeps giving me. I seem to have a hard time with the dry finger part. I mean you have to take the lens out of a solution, so your finger is going to be wet. I may be pushing a bit too much trying to get it into my eye, though. I'll try a little more finesse.

I mainly wanted these so I could stop paying big bucks for prescription sunglasses and riding glasses. Not sure I'm coordinated enough to do this, though. I don't chew gum because I *have* to walk. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices to get the important stuff done.

I take it out of the case with my pointer finger and thumb, then grab it with my left hand and put it on my right middle finger (that's dry).

I did it almost 20 years ago and have never looked back (figuratively). Not a fan of glasses, contacts, etc so finally screwed up my courage to get lasik done - was a piece of cake (as is cataract surgery I hear, a similar process). If you look into it, be sure you go to someone with the best equipment and lots of experience to be sure.

Same here....when I started....it was hard lenses. Those were a PITA.

I will say since switching from glasses to contacts my head doesn't feel like I have it in a fish bowl

also, for those with contacts what are your recommendations for rewetting/lubricating drops? the equate brand sux but there's so many out there I wanted to know which one's you guys like best after trial and error...thanks!

I’ve been wearing contacts for forty years. Make sure the lens is a little wet, too dry and it will stick to your finger. Put lens on pointer finger, use middle finger on the same hand and put it on the lower lid. Looking up a little bring the lens to your eye. It simply takes practice.

Have your finger clean. I don't even wipe hands for that. Dry or wet doesn't really matter.

Agree with everyone on finger needs to be dry. Lens and eye need to be wet. If your eye is dry you will struggle. Grab the lens with the other hand and transfer to finger you will use once finger is dry. Position it center of fingertip. Add a drop of saline solution. This will help it adhere to your eye.

I use my middle finger to put lens in, my ring finger to pull down lower eye lid and a finger from other hand to lift upper eye lid. If your eyes are dry, use some eye drops before you put lens in. You’ll get the hang of it. Now picture me doing it with long nails.

Practice touching your eyeball first, no lens. Desensitizes yourself to blinking as the lens comes in.

Decades ago my eye Dr. quit even trying to insert them for me. I stick out my index finger and she drops in on. Sometimes, I still take it int he other hand and wipe that index finger dry.

I use this technique. I also use my other hand to hold my top lid up by reaching over my head from behind. Right hand goes to my left eye.
