I’ve had the issues on both. Similar to MKSixer in that the ads that would populate were of the same subject of recent conversation. Even the ads on YouTube would be of a recent conversation and not of something looked up online. Spooky stuff.
Best one was my father and I had a phone conversation with the first couple minutes about a large ship that had sunk and was being brought back to the surface. Aside from what I’m typing right now, that is the only bit of time I’ve ever talked about raising a sunken ship. Next time I got on YouTube, about a quarter of the recommended videos were of sunken ships despite having never once looked that up nor watched a video on the subject. They’re ALWAYS listening. |

I would have bet the proverbial farm on it being an Android phone, since this sounds like something that Google would do pushing their self-proclaimed creepy privacy line.....

It was 2017 and I was contacted by phone by a a guy that was an executive at an account that I manage. He and I had never intereracted before but he knew who I was and what I do. He asked if he could send me a non disclosure agreement and if I could sign and send it back to him. I will leave his industry out but he wanted to meet with me because he was opening a new manufacturing plant. His non compete had run out and he was going into business for himself. I had Facebook at the time and was always very careful to keep notification, location services, access to mics, cameras and anything I could find turned off. We met at my local office to review the project so that I could start working on the design of the storage and warehouse. Our meeting was about 2 hours. I had no previous contact with this person and had not even added him to my contacts at this point. I get home from the meeting and open up Facebook. A friend suggestion popped up and it was him. Our meeting with private and there were two people on the planet that knew we were meeting. Pulse Facebook. Talk about feeling like my privacy had been violated. I ended up closing my account a month later for that and other reasons. I can't tell you how much happier I am without that distraction. |

I get this stuff all the time. Kind of useful--its like having an invisible PA around all the time who is not on the clock. If I want to know about something or buying advice, I simply have a walk around the house mumbling about something and there will be info on my phone and computer ready to go.

You're 100% correct. I actually removed gmail from my phone because my best friend showed me how the app tracks all of your movements without regard to whether location services are on, or not. Total BS.

Deactivated BMW assist system, had to sign a waiver at the dealer
Some features off like if I'm in an accident (airbags deployed) if I'm unconscious no help will automatically be sent to my location... 100% f'ed maybe the other guy will call EMS ?!? Imo it's worth it, not being tracked, where I am where I've been |

Specifically, the Wife and I have conversations and I go to do a search on the topic of discussion and I type in the first few letters of the topic and within the first few autofill search criteria is the topic we are speaking about. Some of these topics are not common things. I know on the iPhone Apple does most of the AI on the phone before passing it off to the search engines but it is still creepy it seems to know what we talking about. |

Well there is company at work I dealt with only via email, never searched for any information about the company on internet, no need. The company is only B2B has no business with consumers thus no reason to advertise to a consumer. I too have home computer and never do work on my home computer and mostly avoid doing personal stuff on the work computer at least stuff I do not want any employer looking at. When I am at home with my work computer I am required to connect via an VPN so any internet activity on the work computer references the Work IP address. However, a few time I did access the internet directly at my home IP address so Google realize my work machine was now relate to my home IP and my personal computer. Because of this I was seeing ads for work related company showing up on my home computer. The only way this happen is Google was scanning my work emails. When I told our Legal department, they seem to be aware of this since they said this is part of the reason the Legal and HR departments emails were not put on Gmail since google could not 100% guaranty emails would not be scanned. BTW, I tell anyone who I know who use gmail not to send me emails and I will not respond to their emails since I am not interested in google knowing my business. I currently use my internet service provider for email as well as icloud since Apple is not reading emails at present. |

Yup. It's the cell phone. Mine does the same thing. Only way to stop it is to pull the battery out.

I've been too lazy to put one together. But I'd call this a step one to curbing your paranoia. An easier option is to use a password manager to backup and then clear cookies on exit. I keep a shortcut to my cookies on my desktop and clear them at will. It seem that every time something starts acting funny it's due to some cookie issue. Clear them and back to normal. |

We just bought the smaller thermometer on the right because it was the only one left at CVS. I'm using it without the app. Didn't even install the app. But geez, this thing is reporting temps back to the mothership.
