One year or 20k miles. I could never bring myself to go 20k miles between oil changes. There are about to be a lot of bad cars on the used market soon.

mobile obviously thinks its additives have that longevity
blackstone will tell us if its ok
i really suspect there is no way particulates will be ok in any oil @ 20k.. maybe if the filter is changed several times in the interim
the warranty is likely just marketing.. who is going to go to mobile for warranty they would have to prove it was the oil which caused the repairs and they wont make it easy

You do know that the manufacturer-recommended interval on many late model Porsches is 20K miles...right?

And even liquid cooled Porsches hold about two to four times the oil as a car of similar displacement. Helps that they route it all the way to the front to cool it.

I did at least 10 changes with an OCI of around 17,000 on BMW oil. Not sure why this is a big deal.

I'd never run oil that long in a car or heck even my lawn mower! lol

Same car? Ever have an analysis of the oil done Ever pull the valve cover off to see if any sludge?

Yes, same car; it'd be pointless to make such a claim otherwise. I've posted pictures of both the bottom end and valvetrain numerous times on E90 Post. Not a speck of sludge. Hit 322,000 last week.

No oil analysis. Pointless IMO. Why spend $25 to find out $42 worth of oil lasted 7,500 miles like most people do. It's a prediction of what happened with the last compliment of oil, not the future performance of the new oil in the engine.

This is the kind of stuff that blackstone oil analysis is for

Send in a sample after 10k and see what they say.....rinse and repeat every couple thousand miles until there is no love left in the oil

FWIW, both BMW and GM recently DROPPED their oil change intervals. I personally don't care what people do with their OCIs, but it's some evidence that major automakers with tons of data think pushing the drain intervals isn't always a wonderful idea.

I'm guessing this is a very high quality oil, so it's nice to have another quality oil option out there.

For BMW it coincided with a drop in included maintenance. Keep the paying customer coming in.

The included maintenance program got reduced for 2017 model cars and beyond.

Ya, piss me off. The change happened two months after my car was built. If it was built two months later, I would have gotten the 10,000 interval.

Sounds like you do a lot of highway driving. Big difference between that and soccer moms that start car, drive 5 km, shut off, restart, drive 2km, shut off, restart, drive another 2km, shut off and the oil never gets up to full operating temp.

We did required oil analysis on Army vehicles in my past life, and using bulk 30 weight, would routinely get 17000 miles or more in severe field conditions before breakdown was detected. My first BMW X5 would always go that far before the computer told me to go in for service. I have no problem with synthetics going 20K. Oil waste in the US is almost unbelievable. YMMV.

My car has seen a lot of serious back-road driving with fast elevation changes and quick turns plus 200 miles a week of some of the most dense stop and go traffic in the US (US Route 66 in Northern Virginia). I've pretty much hammered the car on the last 10 miles to my house up in the central Virginia mountains for the past 10 years.

In that trip, is a 11-turn corkscrew mountain road one mile from my house that climbs 600 feet in 1 mile. My car has done that every day for 10 years when the engine has not even reached operating temperature.

But in your scenario, a soccer mom would never reach 17,000 miles in 1 year and would do a 1-year OCI per BMW maintenance schedules.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
