failed to start after a basic car wash

Yesterday, my 2005 BMW X3 3.0i failed to start after a basic car wash. Despite having BMW Standard Tools and BMW Scanner 1.4, which are 400km away, I ordered a USB OBD cable to arrive later today. Meanwhile, I tried disconnecting the battery, checked the VTG and ABS sensor, and pulled a P0171 code with a basic code reader, but nothing helped. The ECU box was dry, but I suspect that the initial start attempt in the wash bay may have affected the EWS synchronization. Could this be the cause?
