Seems like BMW is not participating this year, they were not at the DFW Auto Show last weekend, either.

A lot of manufacturers have given up on auto shows, except for the handful of world renowned ones.

BMW are not attending NYIAS either this year.
They will return to Pebble Beach and the LAIAS in November which will see the World Premiere of the BMW 2er Gran Coupe.

I stopped going to the DC auto show a long time ago. I only went the one time a couple of years ago because a couple of friends got me to go. As you noted, the interesting cars are all usually locked if they're not roped off where you can't even get up close to it. No thanks. If I wanted to see a car at arms length, I can just look at pictures online. I get there is a drive to protect the cars, but have someone monitoring who is getting into and out of the cars.

Everyone pulled out of the Auto Shows. It's just not worth it to them to take cars to these places. First it'll be the smaller ones like DC and Detroit, then, it'll be Geneva.

Did Korea take all the German designers? Good god, every one of the German cars looked like they were beaten with an ugly stick. Hideous.

In America yes ... to the point you feel like if you drive a normal car, you will be in danger especially if you hit highways more often

Detroit is (or was?) a huge one until the three Germans pulled out.

Crazy to hear they won't be at NYIAS!

This has been pretty evident since at least 2014, when CUV sales really skyrocketed.

It sucks, the ugly monstrosities block my visibility and they don't see me while I'm passing. Probably a mix of the poor visibility and the types of generally oblivious people who buy them...

Fun fact: 45% of BMW's total US sales were...you guessed it, SUV's.
