Anyone else have EZ Pass Tag problems with OEM NAV?

I started to have some serious issues with my tag. In some location it gets read, but at others it does not. Speed is not an issue.
I called CS and they told me that its because i have an '08 car with navigation+bluetooth. I'm sure that BS.
I'm waiting to try a new tag out. They told me that i should really get an external one, but since i have no pates in the front that's impossible.

Anyone have similar stories?

First time I've heard about this.

I don't have that problem.

that is BS, unless '08s have some sort of alternate interference? both my e92 and my fiance's e90 (both have Nav + BT) NEVER have problems with EZ. i think your EZ tag is getting old, those sensors go in about 5yrs (although mine is 8yrs going strong!) i bet the new tag will fix all your problems, keep us posted.

It's pretty impossible from a technical standpoint... here is why...

Incoming geek speak...

EZPass is an Active RFID device which means it operates in the 900MHz band. Bluetooth operates in the 2.4GHz band. GPS... well the GPS satellites transmit GPS Data at 1.2GHz and 1.5GHz but your nav system is receiver only and could not possibly interfere. If the GPS transmissions from the satellites interfered... well 1) EZPass/RFID would never have passed FCC screening and 2) EZPass/RFID would NEVER work at all not just in cars with nav.

In any case, your battery is probably bad.. new transponder will fix it unless you had some recent windshield coating which *may* degrade the signal.

Okay.. that's my geek tidbit for the day

its located all the way up to the left of the rear view mirror. I'll try lowering it a bit, because it might be in the sun strip.

The transmit power in the antennas isn't that high. The lower to the ground the more power it takes to transmit the signal back to the antenna. Putting the transponder in the glovebox may work occasionally but as time goes by and the batteries die down it will stop working if it even works at all.

IIRC the license plate transponders are more powerful than the "tags" since they have to send their signal further.

FYI.. for anyone who doesn't know what RFID is.. it's the same technology used in access badges to get into buildings. The difference is the badges are non-powered passive devices that get power from the radio signals in the readers.

can i get a plate transponder and mount it on the inside of the windshield? that way it should overpower whaterver interference i'm getting (unless my battery is just dying)

technically you should be able to "mod" the front mount license plate tag to be in your glove box. next DIY coming up...

haha, what's this mod all about?
Does it simply involve putting it into the glove box?
How effective is it?
