Extra Air Filter

I was changing the Air Filter on my 07 530i and noticed that there was an extra air filter???

This is my 3rd BMW...previous two were M3's and I have never seen this???

Any hints as to what this might be would be great.

Could be the charcoal filter. Is it sealed onto the airbox?
