When does it stop? maintenance :)

i get it, these cars will cost to maintain, but we are in a bit of a catch 22...

we bought an e60 535 from my cousin for a really good price, or so we think, about 3400 with 150k miles. we put 1500 into it, to get a tune up.

just spent 500 on new tires and now we find out it needs injectors and valve covers.

i understand these will cost money to maintain, but from your experience, how long will these last? is it worth putting another 2k into it?

$2K for injectors and valve cover? You can buy index 12 injectors for $750-850 (set of 6) and valve cover with bolts and gasket for $380.
I thought that mine valve cover was cracked and I bought brand new, replaced and it wasn't an issue... still have it and planning to put it back so if you're interested i might sell one to you for half the price.
Did mechanic told you that there's something wrong with your valve cover?

Do you have a service history on the car? You can expect major things to start needing replacement @ 100,000 miles, but if you keep up with it, the car will go 300,000.

Sounds like you have a shop phishing to make money on you.

I suggest getting second opinions, and definitely second quotes.
good luck,
Barry

Get an aftermarket warranty or sell it. Our 2010 535 must have had over $20k worth of repairs in 2.5 years. At 84k miles the engine randomly seized. This car was meticulously maintained by dealerships and us.

Three valve cover gaskets
Broken valve cover
Two oil filter housing gaskets
Oil pan gasket
Two new sets of fuel injectors
Three HPFPs
New downpipes and catalytic converters
VANOS units failed

that's just off the top of my head without looking at receipts. Warranty, repair yourself or sell it...else you will have your bank account wiped out.
