2009 535i muffler delete
I decided that I did not want to spend 1-2k on an exhaust system so I went the route that many 335i's go. I got my muffler deleted.
I settled on just a muffler delete from the axle back and running 3 inch pipe straight into 2 tips. Originally, I wanted to delete my muffler and resonators and run a Magnaflow muffler with tips but my exhaust guy told me to try the cheaper route first. I must say that I am extremely satisfied with the sound produced. Of course, you probably wont see any performance gains from this but you might feel faster due to the sound your car creates now. The best part is that I only spent $200 including labor. Sorry for the quality of the vid. The freeway noise is pretty loud. I have another vid of in cabin driving with windows down then up. If anyone wants to hear it I'll post it up. As far as the muff delete goes, it's not going to be for everyone. Some might think its too loud but I am coming from a 2009 WRX so it's not that loud to me. I love how the exhaust gurgles in low rpm's and screams in the top end. Loving the sound!! Can you explain how muffler delete is done? Is the muffler completely removed, and replaced with a pipe? Will this affect the performance at all (more or less backpressure)?

Yes the rear muffler portion is completely taken out and replaced by a single pipe connected to 2 tips. I have not felt any change in performance. It is mainly for sound and looks.

Thanks for the info. I notice there are pics now (didn't see them yesterday). So technically it's reversible, but did you check if the pipes in the original 535i muffler were similarly arranged, i.e. a simple 'Y-split' as in your mod?
