Transmission Malfunction on M5

Just got my 2007 M5 on Thursday, 3 DAYS AGO! Yesterday afternoon while going to work I get the "transm. Malfunction" warning. Says gears may be limited. I can go through all my gears but can drive over 30-35mph. In every gear the RPMs will go up and the engine will rev but won't shift right away. I bought the car with CPO warranty with close to 51k miles. The guy I bought it from says he has never had this problem, I find this hard to believe but I guess the dealer will be able to read the key to see what kind of codes have popped up in the past.

Also, when I got the car the SMG was shifting very rough and there was a burning clutch smell that went away on friday (day 2). A friend of mine who had this same car says the SMG shifts rough so the shifting was normal. Didnt have him drive it though. If that was normal for the SMG I am not happy with my purchase. I emphasized my concerns about having to replace the tranny to the seller because I read bad things about these SMGs. He said he had zero issues and never launched the car. I was only going to keep the car for 8 months so thought i would be able to sell waaaay before anything like this happened. 3 FREAKING DAYS, UNREAL!

Anyone know what the cost of repairs and if my horrible dealership will cover it under CPO or not?

1) CHECK CODES before buying any car. Absolutely no excuse not to.

2) Don't see why it wouldn't be covered under CPO, good luck.

No fear, CPO is here. CPO should take care of it.

Just an update...it was the clutch and flywheel. Cost me $5k out of pocket. Pissed off needless to say. Especially since I also spent 5k on new wheels and tires right before.

whats the big deal? my clutch masters twin disk cost 2800 bucks.... and that was on an E36 M3...... so look into it on perspective of what an E60 S85 is.

an E60 with SMG to be diagnosed, trans pulled, replace the twin disc clutch/flywheel/pressureplate(s), etc.etc, then adapt trans, then clutch slip in point, then clear faults......
i mean, really?

try rebuilding/fixing one of those engines...... you wanna talk expensive?

Oh, I totally believe you, its just I thought the manual version of the car would be more reliable than the SMG version. My best friend's car cost nearly $21,000 to replace the SMG tranny after it went out. Lucky for him the car was well within warranty, he was at about 32K when that happened. I can easily afford an E60 M5 (2006/2007), but listening to these horror stories are real deal breakers. I'm such a fanatic for the V10, it's unlike anything else. I've driven the car enough to know how special it is, my friend parked it in my driveway for nearly a year, his house unfortunately had a major fire and they lived in an apartment without a driveway. I used to drive it regularly with him, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the car but owning one outside of warranty is a nightmare. If I had to buy one it'd have to be an LCI 2008+ with lesser mileage. I just don't want to spend $50K on a car right now with higher priorities. But the day I come across the "perfect" car when things change, I'll be sure to snatch it up Til then, I'll live vicariously through this forum
