C8 Stingray
Anyone own or have experience with a C8? I'm talking standard C8 not Z06 they are out of my budget. Is the Z51 package a must? I really like how it looks. I'm on my last nerve with the Stelvio QV and problems with it. Now the AC is not working

Be prepared for headaches with them too. The DSG transmission has problems and is very expensive. They're the most problematic generation of Corvette so far.
But yes, Z51 is a must in every Corvette. They shouldn't come without z51. |

Do they really have DTC problems? There is plenty of new inventory. Dealers don't seem to motivated yet though. Most are at 3-6k off.

I know this isnt exactly what you've asked but i'd rather have a 7 speed C7 Z06 than a C8 Z51. Good luck with whatever you choose! Corvettes are cool.

How about a black wing?
If I needed a 2+2 car made in the US I think that's it. Just throwing ideas since you mentioned it would replace a Stelvio. Corvettes are cool though.

Off post topic but wow I thought they still had regular autos. That's cool. Sucks they have issues tho. Guess it's back on my list as a possible future purchase.. .

Z51 suspension on the street only will up street cred at cars and coffee. And yes as mentioned, the DCT is proving to be the Achilles heel, too many reported failures would make me hesitant of owning without warranty. |

I do see lots of posts about DCT failures now. People waiting months for a new transmission. Ugh even under warranty I don't want to deal with that. I wonder if it's the reason there is a massive amount of cars available.

when you become accustomed to the precision and refinement of a German car you may not be so happy with a domestic that was my experience when I went from a 2016 Cayman S to s 2015 C7. I would recommend an extended test drive or a turo rental to make sure a C8 will work for you |

The C8 basically chased clout and abandoned what made previous generations great as more than just track cars. That said, I think there's just a lot of options and high interest rates driving inventory up. That said, there SHOULD be inventory and there SHOULD be discounts, that's how domestics are supposed to be priced. That said, as much as I love my Corvette, I'll agree that the euro competition does have nicer materials. They definitely fit more on the luxury side. |

I'm guessing the budget is around $70Kish
A fun exercise sometimes is just go to autotrader.com select any make any model and maybe just select "coupe" in the body type and set the price range say from $65-75K and you will be surprised what pops up...there some great cars out there in htat price range.... here you go https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...eASC&zip=92592 The C8 was on my short list when I was recently looking to replace the 718, but ultimately followed my heart and spent a little more for a well sorted gen 1 gated R8 that will most likely gain value over time rather than depreciate... The C8 are amazing bang for the buck exotic like styling with full warranty, but in SoCal they are already everywhere and just aren't very special anymore due to that fact. dump your current car and its issues ASAP and get what you want ...life is too short, enjoy it while we here Last edited by Socal_R8; 06-08-2024 at 05:17 PM.. |

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

It doesn’t, the c7 fun factor is really up there and it’s very easy to drive. Look, I will be the first to admit that the interior is simple and not exotic but I don’t care about that. 2.9 seconds zero to sixty, damn good around corners for what I paid is an amazing feat. I am happy I went USA built, it feels right.

I'd skip a base C8. If not Z, I'm out.
I was on the Z list with Ciocca before they started actually making them. Ciocca screwed us over & they lost the #1 Vette dealer title quickly. SMH. I bounced off the list and will buy something else at some point. What makes you want the C8? That will determine what other cars you should look at first. I've had a modded C6Z, modded LS2 C6 and 600+ WHP C5. I'd want a 427 Vert C6, modded C6 GS or C7 Z06 at this point. My ultimate Vette is a restomod C2.

Done and done.
I've had both a C6 and C7 Z06, the C7 was worse. Interior was worse than the c6 even though it moved "upmarket". C8 isn't really fun to drive, and the Z06's only gimmick is that it sounds good. Buddy has one and borrowed it for a week, I think I'd rather buy something else for that much money

my Porsches have been strippers, minimal options outside of those that add to the driving enjoyment FOR ME, the C7 didn't bring the same fizz in driving enjoyment, it felt sloppy in lots of ways, had lazy PARTIAL throttle response, anyways for a bunch of reasons (which you can see in my posts on here when I got it), it just didn't do it for me looking back I wish I had spent more time in one before I ordered one, one 10 minute test drive wasn't enough to see what I wasn't going to like about it recommend the same to the OP (who appears to have left the building) |
