Help with out of auction ebay sale

Hey guys I was contacted by a guy from ebay who wants to buy my laptop out of auction. He is offering me the money I want, and to do the transaction through paypal. He has alot of positive feedback but has not made any transactions on ebay for about 2 years. I dont want to send my laptop to this guy and somehow he screws me out of my money. If I receive the money on paypal is can he still scam me. I have sold only one item on ebay, and it was sold though the auction. Am I being too paranoid? If I see the money appear in my paypal is it as good as mine, or can he somehow report that it was never shipped or something and screw me? I am an ebay newb and would like some advice. Thanks guys.

don't do it. tell him to bid on your auction and win it legitimately. if he's the real deal, he'll do it. not only that, but you'll want ebay/paypal money back guarantee in case you get fucked.

not only that, but no activity in years is highly suspect. accounts on ebay get phished all the time.

Alright that was my gut instinct. Another question, I posted it on two forums, including this one and have gotten some interest. How would be the best way to handle dealing with people this way? Thanks for the advice. BTW, you used to live on lovers lane in UP right? I remember seeing your car a few times, looks very good, nice modifications.

It doesn't cost him anything as a buyer to buy something on Ebay...

One thing you could do is cancel your auction and make another and have him buy it out.

i lived on university, but lovers was my main artery.

to answer your other questions, if you've got a buyer from another source, make sure they're paypal confirmed and you should be good to go. either that or cashiers check/money order.

need an M3?

^^ GO COWBOYS!^^
maybe cancel the auction, change to a BIN and have him use that, double the protection with ebay purchase and payment via paypal.

In the end tho I'M sure you will get whatever the guy offered you in your auction if you decide not to deal with him.

tell him to send the payment and you wont ship it until the payment transfers to your account, this way you save yourself from the ebay closing costs which are over 8 percent...

Pretty sure this dude is a scam. I sent him an email last night, asking him to bid on the item and win it that way. He exclaimed that he needed it now, and could not wait for the auction to end (ends in 2.5 days).

Wake up this morning with an email (from paypal apparently) telling me that he transferred $700 into my paypal account (I am asking 600). I think to myself oh brother, what do I do now. I read the email on my phone and it seemed legitimate. Just now I am on my computer, and the email seems far less legitimate. I get on my paypal account and there is no extra money in there. This guy is a scammer right?

The email is from "onehappysoul@gmail.com on hehalf of service@paypal.com, bs

^ Scammer, paypal uses only paypal.com emails. And be careful in the future because you might recieve emails from service@paypals.com or something like that to verify that you are the owner.

If you have him send the money and then wait until you transfer the money to your bank account before sending it (longer wait time for him) then you can't really get frauded.

Personally I would just make sure the transaction went through eBay. You can easily report him for these shinnanigans, but make sure he is a fraud and will not buy through an auction first

I can tell you from personal experience that's a f***ing joke. I bought a motorcycle item with 'buy it now' with the stupid ebay/paypal guarantee, paid thru paypal, and never got anything. Made a claim with both, got a ruling on my favor (duh!), but NEVER got paid back because the guy closed the account. So 'guarantee' my a$$. It should be 'guarantee as long as we recover the money first'. I'm sure there's language to that effect if you read the pages of fine print . Lesson learned. You need to act like nobody is going to cover anything. No more transactions with anybody with less than 20 (perfect) feedback for me. First (and last so far) time getting screwed in over 20 years, which is a great record, but still sucked to lose $100. In retrospect, I should have disputed the charge with my credit card, but that meant losing my Paypal account, so decided to eat it. But I'll NEVER give them any bank account information; that's for sure.

On this guy, if he sent you a fake paypal email to try to lure you into sending the item without checking your account first (that's be pretty stupid, but glad you checked it), it'd immediately terminate any communication with him. And report that email to ebay, paypal, and whoever investigates those messages from the government (state department, FBI, etc... Don't know which). Good luck.

Were you getting a BJ while reading ? Read my message again. You'll clearly see I said motorcycle ITEM, and $100. And no, I didn't edit it, as it's quoted on your post . Later.
