Living in New York is really starting to piss me off

Not sure if this pertains to any other states but NYS has now added another new bull shit law to pass inspection. I have 3 trucks and all of them have 15-20% tint on the windows...I paid $500 to have each truck tinted and now it needs to be removed!?!? FU NY

I'm not fully awake yet so maybe I'm reading something wrong, but the article states 2 different things: 1) a quote from someone saying you can only have 30% tint and 2) a statement saying "New York's Vehicle and Traffic Law already disallows drivers to have cars with a tinted windshield or front side windows that allow in less than 70 percent of light." In the case of the latter, I would assume a 15-20% would be okay since they allow > 70% light transmission, no?

Either way, forget NY....they can't even eat their pizza right.

Nope. Nothing lower than 70% on front and all side windows. Rear window can be painted for all they care. Stupid shit.

I'm watching to see who has their workaround.... but so far I've asked a few places and they confirmed they will not pass you unless the tint is 70 or higher.

I'd try it as is just to see, preferably at a friendly and unprofessional local shop - they may not be very thorough, may not have the fancy gear yet. Best if you have paperwork stating it is only 70%, even if not official. My wife's car just passed w/ flying colors despite having a bulb out and a missing sway bar end link, so they do often overlook stuff.

My dad moved to Texas from Brooklyn during WWII, he was in the Air Force. After the war ended he joined the Fire Dept (i basically grew up in a fire station). He despised the weather in NY and never moved back. As a kid i enjoyed visiting NY every year but would not want to live there. Cattivo, move to Texas, we can always use another good man!

I miss living in DFW. Daughter was born there and lived 5 of the best years of my life there. If only they'd ship the Cowboy's to another state, it'd be perfect!

As much as I like NYC and the hustle and bustle...can't really see myself living here permanently.

Too many people. Too much emotions. Too much ignorance. Too much regulations and bullshit.

Shit gets tiring after a while.

^ This.

There are many shops/gas stations that will pass your inspection as long as you pay the standard fee and give a decent tip.

If you have trouble finding one, I can help you find one in Queens or BK. Just PM me if you have trouble passing inspection.

The only way I'm removing my tint is if D-Bag Deblasio or NYS hand me a check for $500 (for each truck) to pass inspection... I've been with FDNY for over 20 years now and have never had or encountered any type of problem seeing through anyones dark tinted windows during an accident call wether it be day or night out, that's why they give us really bright flash lights!

As if living here isn't insane as it is money wise, this is just another reason to pack up the wife and kid and gtfo!

Growing up on the apparatus floor as a kid is heaven on earth! The weather/roads suck here during the winter, I can't tell you how many sets of expensive wheels I've destroyed... I actually looked at the price of homes in Texas for after I retire, LOL I could buy a 10,000 square ft mansion there for the price of a 2,700 square ft home here.

Just like MKSixer said, get rid of the cowgirls and I will leave tonight!!!

I'd forgotten that they made me remove the tint on my M6 to pass inspection 2 years ago. I was not pleased as the same place passed it the time before. I understand the safety aspect for the LEOs but it has become a hammer now.

It's not called the " Concrete Jungle " for nothing. Bad roads, expensive tolls, smelly subway system with big rats, expensive rentals/homes, expensive breakfast/lunch/dinner, dirty taxis, sirens, uber rips off passengers, airports are congested, bike messengers are ruthless, food carts are disgusting, Port Authority, Penn Station, Grand Central test your patience, buses never on time, traffic doesn't move, tourists walk on the left side of the sidewalk, and in the middle, citibikes take up corners, and finally, 57th and 5th ave is gridlock. Guess why? However, its home of the FDNY, and NYPD, the best in the world. Like Frank Sinatra said " If you could make it here, you could make it anywhere. " I won't trade it for any other city. It's home.

Wife is from NY and her parents still live there. I absolutely hate going there. No parking, streets SUCK, nobody gives a damn about your car (meaning people will make space and ding your car to fit in a spot), apartments are tiny, people are nasty and arrogant, way too many people. I know this doesn't speak for ever NY'er but just from my experience.

Only thing I enjoy is the variety of food available in the immediate area.

Just curious, how much do the rest of you living out of NY pay for a car inspection (pass or fail)... $37 here

Zero. No car inspections in FL. There used to be emission only inspections but they ended those years ago after some controversy (details of which I don't recall). I do recall pouring rubbing alcohol in my Oldsmobile gas tank before the inspection to pass.

Downside is there are douchebags driving around with bald tires, broken headlights and brake lights that don't work. I don't think police have the resources to ticket them all.

The tint meter isn't attached to any computer connected to the DMV. Passing the inspection is up to the owner of the inspection station and if the tool they buy off eBay is working properly lol

When I go for my inspection, I'll just tape a 50 to the window and give the guy the nod

Id be more upset that you just paid $500 for each truck to get tinted. Just had mine done, crew cab, Front and Rear Sides and Rear for $250.

And from the looks of it, your 15-20% on the front sides was already illegal so....

I'm a jersey guy and have longed to move south, especially Texas. (besides being able to actually carry firearms, i think texas is badass).
