Red light ticket...!
I need you guys to help me out here. My girlfriend accidentally ran a red light while driving my car and got photoed by a camera. The ticket was issued to me since the car is under my name. My girlfriend got a couple tickets this year already and can not go to driving school. It will be really bad for her record if she gets another ticket. Since the ticket was issued to me and only the photo is her, so I was wondering if I can pay the ticket for her. Will anything happen? Thanks...

'accidentally' = I'm in too big of a hurry and need to slow down the next traffic cycle while they wait for me to get out of the intersection?
Sounds like you are about to be the lucky owner of 1 point for about 400 bux, I doubt they will even bother to track down the actual driver of the vehicle unless you raise a stink about it. |

Don't worry about it. Red Light Tickets do not count against driving records as they must be issued through a village or city ordinance. At least in Illinois. I expect most states are the same, so look into that, but you should be fine.

Just pay it. Oh and demand BJ's whenever you want
Here in Ohio camera tickets are a no point violation. Sucks for you guys in Cali.

The ticket should state whether you'll be charged points or not.
In NYC, the red light ticket is mailed to the car's registered owner and there's no points, as long as its paid promptly (I just received a red light ticket 2 months ago)... Hate the red light cameras, but it does catch you red handed/lead-footed

Send them back the photo of her and a blown-up copy of your driver's license. How can they ticket you if it's obviously not you. You're not deputized; so it's not your responsibility/duty to assist them in finding out who was driving your car.
*edit - just read the post that you were in the car too. Might mean you're stuck paying it.

Im not from CA, so I dont know how the laws over there work, but they dont know who she is, even tho its her in the picture. all they want is the money, so pay it, and it should be over.

It depends on how clear the photo is
you can always PAY For it, no question they don't care as long as they get the money just argue that it was you... and you were wearing a wig or something I'm not joking.. .they can't prove it WASN't you and most cases are people saying "thats not me!" rather than "that is ME!"

The point is to let it be on my record instead of my girlfriend's since my girlfriend can't really have anymore tickets since she already got two this year.

For some reason, I don't think that excuse would fly. Only if you're car was reported stolen, that might work. It'll go on your record, which I think is what you wanted, right?

I don't get what's so difficult about this... either pay the ticket or be prepared to rat on your girlfriend. Since they sent the ticket to you, and you don't want it on her driving record, pay the ticket and have your girlfriend recompense you in whatever currency you feel appropriate. That way she pays the ticket, but it goes on your record. The alternative is to contest the ticket and rat on your girlfriend.

Its your ticket since it was sent addressed to you. Nothing happens to the driver, if your girl wrote a check and paid it nothing would happen to her record.

When my son got one in my car, they ticketed me. I had to go to the city, fill out a form, and put him down as the driver. Then it went on his record and he paid the fine (and went to school).
But yes, the ticket is yours until you disprove it. |
