I actually found that same ad yesterday. I wonder if he's going to get any takers. I mean, if the car is under warranty (and it's not a MT which could lead to accidental engine over revving) the guy really doesn't have that much exposure with the exception of tires. Does he?

Could be a nice little money maker...

***above statements assume he does a good job vetting the customers he will ultimately choose to rent to***

This isn't a new concept. There is a company called Relay Rides that is basically one big peer-to-peer car rental company. You list your car for rent on their site, then set your price and review potential renters. The company also provides insurance on each rental.

www.relayrides.com

It is an interesting way to make some extra cash, but I doubt many of us would be comfortable letting strangers drive our cars.

For the longest time my plates have been different. Just now got everything in NC. My one car had PA plates, one had VA plates, and one had NC plates. Been living in NC for two years now.

The guy could be military and just never changed his registration to NC. As long as you keep renewing in the other state, it doesn't matter. They just mail you all the stuff you need (stickers and registration).

I almost rented a guys jeep in Denver until i found one at Budget. Would have been hell of a lot cheaper to get it from the guy though. Like $300 for the week, unlimited mileage and he would deliver and pick up at the airport.

That's a good price and great service with the private rental. What made you opt for the traditional rental in the end? My guess is that with the private rental, the vehicle reliability is unknown whereas traditional rentals should be well serviced. Or maybe you were also planning on using the Jeep for some four wheeling?

You guessed it, the insurance.

We hit a few trails that were on a map we got from an ATV rental place. Most trails were ok but this one place called Johnny park was big boy wheeling, especially in a rental jeep. Being from FL that place was pretty sick. People were having to get out of their vehicles and spot the people in front of them. This was a place that had guys on trials bikes going up the trails. We would have been much better off in the jeep we own, but hell if i'm going to drive a soft top, lifted jeep with mud tires on it from FL to Co.

Well, the insurance and the fact that the private seller only had a 2 door soft top. We wanted 4 doors and the hard top since we'd have most of our stuff in the jeep most of the time.

Actually $250 per day after fees and likely more once you choose the level of insurance you want. Looks like they don't tell you that until you book it.
