Just goes to prove Gordon's point. That today's consumer is so enamored with form over function that they have no idea what actually constitute a beautiful aesthetics because it FUNCTIONS.

This car doesn't have aggressive spats, dive planes, aero intakes, sharp creases, bulges, massive grills and all that unnecessary garbage most car manufacturers put on cars because it doesn't need it. It's able to generate all that downforce because of ingenuity.

It is the MOST beautiful car to have been designed in the last 30 years IMO. It is first, and foremost, a epitome of a driver's car distilled through the mind of one of the best automotive designer to have ever lived. Every part, shape, form, has a specific function.

It's a giant middle finger to the average plebeian car owners, and every bit fan service to those that enjoy driving for what it is.
My buddy literally said...that fan is hideous is should be a giant wing instead.

I love it, I can't even imagine how great the production vehicle will drive.

I totally subscribe to his philosophy, as he hates big cars too. Also, having the tech dependent on one's smartphone is genius, always HATED all built-in satnavs as they are usually pretty much inferior and more costly than a simple 100$ aftermarket gps. The car looks great at every angle save for at ground level viewing the rear.

Apparently Gordon was asked what the 0-60 was and he answered "I don't know and I don't care."

The McLaren F1 documentary is a must watch.
This dude rips his tiny lotus through the country roads to work and build cars that are smart and focused on driving pleasure, period! He's no slouch behind the wheel which is evident when you see him driving the F1 in a few scenes. Legend!

Absolute legend. Same goes for top speed.

Basically he's saying it'll be damn fast for sure, but the car is not made for getting the fastest shift times on a track, it's not made for us to compare stats.
It's purely made for making sure you'll have the best driving experience on the road and on the track.

The 25 track versions coming later notwithstanding obviously.

I also really hope a manufacture picks up the iStream concept they've develop and come out with a car. That's one I'll be very interested in.

Absolutely. These almost look vulgar comparing to the T.50 and just reminds me why I increasingly ignore these main stream "hyper cars" coming out lately.

I kind of agree with you, but I would not minimize the brilliant design and aerodynamics that go into both the Lambo and Ferrari. Even when it comes to weight and servicing.

have to agree with Gordon on almost all points. NA + manual + having a design that doesn't have to shout to everyone with loads of scoops/vents etc. Even Porsche is guilty of it now with how ridiculous the GT3RS is with all its vents and scoops. But when you spend 200k+ on a 911.. you kind of want it to look different from your neighbors Carrera S. Same with the clean lines of a 458 compared to the hyper aggressive Pista.

The car he designed here is almost perfect. but that giant fan on the back kind of throws everything off. Still, if I had the money there is no other hypercar i'd spend it on. manual v12 under 2400 lbs and insane grip from that downforce

actually T.50 shows all the manufacturers that we can still have lightweight cars.. 980kg on T.50 and another such a great car LaFerrari is 1600kg almost.. its a crazy difference..

and actually T.50 looks cleaner than all other supercars thanks to that fan on the back.. McLaren F1 had 2 fans as far as i remember and it was helping to boost the downforce.. though T.50 has a lot more downforce than McLaren F1.. and it seems like that fan can kick 15kg of thrust alone.. really wonder if that car really move only with that fan on a flat surface..

i agree that recent supercars got too aggressive with their designs that most of them is only for show.. i can bare that but i really want lightweight supercars back.. cause like they say.. "adding power makes you faster on the straights, subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere'..

for safety, cars got heavier but supercars use all sorts of exotic materials, they dont need most of their accessories actually as well.. having a big infotainment is not a must for example even budget friendly cars have them.. but i guess the problem starts with double clutch transmissions, turbochargers they re just heavy and you can shave some weight but there is a limit.. since T.50 is NA and manual probably helps to shave at least like 100kg alone from there.. in short, smaller and lightweight supercars are needed like back in the old days..

As are the Boxster GTS 4.0, GT4 and Spyder.

The T.50 looks good but nothing that really stands out to me, but then again, the F1 never really did much for me in the looks department. I love the ethos of this car. NASP engine, manual, small, nimble, lightweight. At the same time. US regulations for safety usually add a lot of weight. For example, the Alfa 4C in EU is under 2000 lbs, but in the US it is 2300-2400, so youíre looking at 15-20% weight penalty for US DOT Regs. Yes, turbos, big wheels and tires, nav and tech add weight, but they are no bigger than DOT items, if not less. My guess would be, when the T.50 is stateside, itís 2100-2200 lbs. Still impressive, but should be heavier when stateside. Then again, only people who already own 918s, LaFerraris, P1s, Chirons, etc will be buying them in the first place.

I reapect his philosphy that he and his team don't care what people think about the design that was simplified as much as possible to make it timeless. Their mission was to develop the best drivers car. It's about what's under the skin and engagement/feel that is completely lacking these days in most mainstream models. He also mentioned Pagani and Ferrari as having similar philosphies. I also respect Koenigsegg.

Last hurrah is definitely how I’d describe it too. Not just for the analog sports car experience, but possibly it’s the last hurrah/last greatest ICE car as well. Judging from the specs and the reputation of its builder.

I do think it’s not a great looker, but of course you guys are right that with Gordon Murray it’s all about function. I don’t think the F1 was the best looking supercar either but it really didn’t matter.

a bit automotive geek talk on T.50..you can see from this video that how Gordon is obsessed with weight and size of cars.. knowing that he drove a Smart Cabr. for 16 years, having a Renault Kangoo 4x4 probably that car never been in US.. and drives a Suzuki Jimny and an Alpine A110 for daily. such a clear vision he has and a very modest man..

was wondering about the homologation of the fan answer is here also..
better start from 1:05..

Agreed, if we're talking ugly Ferraris, the SF90 is the current ugly duckling.

They deserve to lose some F1 races for this turd.

Watched a bunch of videos and i was partially wrong about it ‘not being much of a looker’. It’s absolutely gorgeous and has such a harmonious design from every angle except the back. At the back, the fan at the end of the long tunnel looks ugly, but of course it’s all about the function

Yeah, that fan at the rear was not able to be integrated well, it just screws up the rear end aesthetics for me. But love it's function.

You think anyone will make an aftermarket kit to help the rear aesthetics?

What an amazing car though, my goodness, though I do think that interior is kind of plain for $3 million. Pagani has it beat, for the sheer drama of that interior.

GM did an absolutely fascinating walkthrough with Harry from Harry's Garage YouTube channel. It's like an hour long but well worth the time. But in it he was very clear that every single bit of the car had a function and there was nothing purely decorative or extraneous, full stop. That plus his obsession with weight savings is why it doesn't look like a Pagani. He goes on to say that there's a certain beauty in simplicity and functionality and I wholeheartedly agree. Just a different approach I guess. It's probably not a good idea to try to beat Horacio at his own game, as well
