Service and MOT...new headlight...

I have a 2018 1 Series...with 18k on the clock(yes that is correct). Service and MOT today but it required a new headlight because of an inner lens being broken...total cost £1,200...£617 for the light) is this normal? I feel diddled today!!

Unfortunately normal.

Head lights for modern cars are in my experience expensive. Back in July 2009 my 2003 996 Turbo needed a new head light -- courtesy of an encounter with a mule deer (needed a headlight and more...). Cost of the head light was over $1500.

Curious I searched for a replacement head light for my 2023 M2. Found one at a dealer in Washington state. Price: $1522 + $40 shipping. (That's discounted from the MSRP of $1874.) I'm sure I could get one from my local BMW dealer parts department and save on the shipping. But still I'd be facing paying $1500+ maybe $1800+ (if no discount) for one.

And I don't know what the labor would run to replace the light.

(My Porsche head light experience the head light assembly slid into the head light nacelle in the fender with guide pins in a tray and once installed and were locked in place with a tool. One could remove the old head light and install a new one in just a few minutes. And after installation the head light alignment would be unaffected.)
