I never considered owning a BMW or any other so called 'luxury' brand of vehicle. Until one day I did. I test drove a Toyota Avalon, a Subaru Legacy GT, and some other stuff.. and they were $30,k cars in 2005. I saw a base model 325i was about the same so I thought I'd try one.. It was love at first drive. I'd only heard bad stories about how expensive they were.
I put 100,k trouble free miles on my E46 base model. I remember looking at it in the garage and saying, 'wow, I own a brand new BMW.' That was a special feeling of accomplishment. Over time I bought an X3 (E83) and recently replaced that with a newer X1 (F48). I wanted a convertible and found one in the color and options I wanted for a fair price. So now I have an E93 as well. I really love driving that car. (other than the pothole explosions) I still prefer the classic look and driving dynamics of the E46... it's just so balanced. I like the square setup over staggered. At some point I test drove a 135i and later a 228i convertible and thought BMW had lost their way... Just numb, especially the 228i. The way the X2 drove is what brought me back to buy another BMW. I needed a little more space so the X1 was the better option. Drives nice, but not as good. (I'd still take it over the 228i, though)... So over the years I've come here.. and it seems to have been revamped a couple or few times over the years... so nice to see it's still a good community. |

I've liked cars since I was young. My Dad had a Mercedes sedan. I remember how the suspension of the MB was so different than American cars then realized European cars fundamentally differed from American in that aspect. I've always had Japanese cars but the BMW styling was something I always liked. I chose a BMW 5 series for my wedding over an MB sedan when I got married overseas. I decided to take the plunge on my first BMW in 2016, a CPO 2013 BMW 650i, and that's when I joined this forum. Beautiful car and loved it but not the fact that I brought it to the dealership 4 times for repairs in the year and a half I owned it. Since then, I've had an E70 X5M and now an F86 that has been a better experience (so far) reliability wise.

Not sure if it was the exact start but definitely helped. If you know, you know.

Can related. Wish BMW still made cars that stirred so many emotions as when seeing that for the first time. Maybe I am getting old, but I do miss the time when there was no Xs, M8s, etc...When the M3 was the quintessential soul of BMW.

Never been a die-hard, brand-loyal fanboi type of guy for any product. My boss was looking to exit the lease for his 2016 535i M Sport in early 2018 (after he test drove the M550i when it first came out), and he offered me a deal I would've been stupid to pass up ($350/mo, and the company picked up the monthly insurance tab). Had never leased a car before that. After a year of seat time in that thing, just went with another BMW when the lease was up (M340i) because the GM was a relative of the boss and it was another crazy deal for me.

Thinking I'd get laid more. Didn't help. I guess I should have gotten the M8.

First time I drove an E36 328is with manual transmission was when it clicked for me.
Felt SO 'right' to drive! I bought it, and now on my 4th BMW (current G80 M3). |

It was in high school drooling over the E46 M3, reading the forums every day and pouring over information.
Fast forward a bit and became even more in love with the E90 M3, ended up owning a used one years ago which I adored. To now, ordering a new M3 for the first time and taking delivery of my G80 M3. I've loved and owned both Audi and BMW vehicles. My Mercedes I had, not so much. |

I drove my Dad’s friend’s E28 535. OMG! The smooth linear power of the straight 6, the tout steering(SO much road feel) and an amazing chasis started my passion. My God I still remember the linear power! If there was one car I wish I could go back and buy and bring back, it would be this thing.

I drove a manual 318i in Germany for the first time, was completely different from the average cars I drove and then it progressed onto the present car I have.
Will soon be moving from the congested area where I am now to a well out of town location where one of the many benefits will be to enjoy the car more. |

Not sure if I still have this, but I had an assignment in my ESL class where I had to to describe my dream car. It was a 3 series, which, according to me — was going to have a mini bar among other things))) This was accompanied by a faboulous drawing of the car. I went with an X3 instead, but I suppose it's close enough
