Love going on road trips with my son. He was 4 the last time we made the drive to my dad's house; about 8h/450mi. But he's always been a trooper in the car. Helps that he's super interested in things you might see pretty often as you drive; trucks, occasional train, hills, etc etc. I want to take my 2yo daughter too, but suspect she may change my opinion of road trips with kids Not because she's a girl or anything like that; just because kids as content and easy going as my son are rare.

Disney is already killing me...
I'm planning to do PCD to pick up my new car. They gave a tentative date for Jan 19th. Problem is I booked Disney on Ice tickets for the 20th. I could sell the tickets and book for a later date but none of the later dates that we're available have seats as good as the ones I already booked (at least for a reasonable price). So now I'm contemplating delaying my car pickup to mid February

That's what I'm saying... then my wife gives me the whole... our daughter's been looking forward to this for months!
I reply with, I've been looking forward to this car for over a year! Somehow that doesn't get me any sympathy points.

in almost all cases, I would agree but think about the reality of this situation... Disney on Ice is still available on many dates...
this is a car someone has waited for about a year for with major supply chain shortages and global difficulties all while spending almost 100k on it... I think Disney could wait tbh... this is a MAJOR purchase

It’s time to change your username to DeathbyDisney.
My friend loves Disney and is obsessed. She’s turning 60 next year but couldn’t wait another year to celebrate so in Jan she’s doing a big girls trip to Disney. I was on board. The whole support your friend thing. I then looked at the cost. $2000 for tickets and room for 5 nights. Not a drop of food or alcohol or matching shirts and ears (couldn’t pay me to wear that). Speaking of wtwo3 do y’all have your matching shirts and ears made yet ? Anyway, I hate Disney. Don’t like lines and the gouging. I do think what they create is neat and the engineering behind everything is fascinating. That’s not enough for me to justify that cost. The main reason is sick parents. Tommy-G the whole drive to Key West changing your life. Eh, don’t see that happening. It reminds me so much of driving to Grand Isle but the water is prettier. If you get stuck behind a caravan of RV’s or trucks it’s f’ing miserable. I live in NOLA and so much of Key West reminds me of that so that might be why I was not very impressed. Also, we’ve been fortunate to travel so many places and I would rather spend that money somewhere else I enjoyed more. |

Sometimes we need to be a bit selfish or you spend your entire life saving fro your kids futures where in reality, they already have everything they need. Well that and Disney was bad fucking idea to begin with and i said so in the thread on it. |

No instruction, just a set of skis and a lift pass. I go to the top and figure, well, gravity does the rest right? I push off and i am at warp speed in seconds, I am absolutely HOWLING down that hill, arrow straight, if i'd have hit a bump i'd have landed in NZ. I look ahead, no idea how to stop, too scared to roll. I see an instructor skiing backwards, like sideways across the mountain. I absolutely COLLECT this mother fucker, like a god damn plane crash. I don't have a mark on me, he is screaming like a banshee. A guy comes up to me and says it may be best if i vanish so i bugger off and in the distance I hear ambulance sounds. I kept my head low all week, stuck to the bunny hills. never returned. |

So to the topic at hand, i will try and stick to the spirit of the OP and not just list things I hate. Let's face it, if i did that i'd be here all day right. So here are a few that I looked forward to and people say is great but when i tried I just......blehhhhh.
Live Shows: As in theatre. Tried two, both bored me to tears and felt silly, like borderline childish. Not for me. Miami: Fuck me this was a shit place. Now, i know it's not really me right, it's really a nightlife kind of place, everyone showing off etc. OK fine, but it was just absolutely DIRE. No landmarks, no central gathering space, no public square, no nothing. The promenade in front of all the hotels was nice but literally that was it. Exceedingly expensive and boring. Hated it. Strip Joints Love me ladies like any red blooded fella but could this be any less exciting? They're all so fucking sad. Hookers are legal back home so you get harassed a lot for a good time but it's just kinda...i dunno...........a wet t-shirt competition is more fun so to speak. Mercedes Just never seemed aspirational to me like it seems to be to so many people. Each to his own but i could pass on all of them tbh. |

But to be fair (and set aside the tongue in cheek act), my wife was supportive of selling the tickets and looking for a later date - she was helping me look. It's just that none of the dates we'd be available to take our daughter to see it had seats nearly as good as the ones I originally booked. So I myself would feel a bit guilty if I sacrificed the seats just to get my car a few weeks earlier. That being said, I consider myself a pragmatic person. I'm not so stubborn that i stick to some principles just for the sake of principles. It's all about assessing the situation and being flexible. If I find myself in a situation where I can't move PCD out by a few weeks and the 19th is the only date available, then I'll gladly sacrifice the Disney seats for slightly worse ones on a later date and would hope my wife understands. The reverse also holds true. If PCD can be moved a few weeks later without trouble, I'm ok doing that to preserve the seats I originally booked.

The main takeaway here is that Disney ruins things in multiple ways... even a simple 2 hour live show.

There I am, with my legs so tangled-up with my skis that it took me 10 minutes to get them undone, with the girl standing over me screaming "Why didn't you yell!?!" Umm...'cause hitting you probably saved my life? No, 'cause shit was going so fast I didn't have time to think beyond 'don't aim for the trees'. Like I could influence the direction I was traveling. What a cluster**** that one was. I walked down to the bottom of the slope and was done with skiing. That sport has too much overhead for me.

We then get to the keys and could not find a single fucking hotel with availability. We then remember it was some kind of holiday. Long story short, drove all the way to the keys and back home that same night and got a ticket for my troubles. Don't think I've ever been back. Quote:
