Need DIY for: Turbo Removal & Transmission
Hey guys anyone have a diy on a turbo swap for the S63tu and any DIY's to remove DCT Trans. My buddy is parting out needs help putting his stock turbos back in so he can sell his turbos, and I want to take his DCT with SSP clutches, can we just direct swap transmissions? He has an M6 coupe I have an F10 M5 Do we need to do any coding or such for the transmission swap? Clutch relearn for both cars anything like that ?

The best teacher in life is experience...start unbolting, bag things and get to it.

It would be easiest just to swap clutch assemblies from one trans to the other. You will still need to use the ISTA D scan tool to do the adaptation. This is much easier and less time consuming. We sell the clutch removal tool if you need one. Kris |

I was replying more along the lines of the turbo swap. Being that the blocks are the same, I can't see why the transmission wouldn't be an easy swap as well...it's the software/coding that are going to be the bitch. Keep all the parts you can, drivelines, mounting brackets, etc etc and keep your fingers crossed

ISTA D or P won't work to swap DCT's (I tried it). You have to get a new TCU (part of the mechatronics unit) from BMW with the VIN coded so that the EWS recognizes it. Alternately you can swap the mechatronics unit.
As someone stated, easier to swap the clutch assembly than the DCT.... either way everything has to be removed. Regarding turbo swap.... I don't have pictures, but here is the way: 1. Do the DP removal steps (there is a DIY for that) 2. Remove the turbo intake, inlets and charge pipes 3. Remove the upper water IN/OUT hoses 4. Remove the wastegate vacuum references 5. Remove top oil feed lines 6. Remove the heat-shield above behind alternator to gain easier access to the oil drain lines 7. Sometimes removing the alternator makes it easier, but not necessary 8. Remove the vband at turbine inlet and remove the turbos 9. Make sure to replace all the gaskets and oil feed/drain washers (don't want leaks with those) 10. Put everything back in reverse order |
