Ski Vacation (all advice needed)

Hell everyone,

I moved from NY about 4 years to Miami and i sold all of my pro ass fucking ski gear which i regret now. I wanted to go on a trip to ski again but i dont want to rent the beginner skis, boots and bindings. Anyone know a ski resort that rents professional grade ski equipment?

Most of the major ones do. Get demo rentals. It's usually the hot equipment for that year.

What state you going to? Had good luck with trips to Colorado and California in past. Didn't rent but shouldn't be any issue.

Rent demo equipment for sure, but most of the time the boots aren't much different if at all for demo vs regular bs. I live in Austin but I go once a year at least, so I bought a pair of very nice boots, and a boot bag. Had the heat molded to my foot. And have used them for 6 years now which equates to probably one season for a local lol. The best part is traveling is no different with just the boots ( and helmet). But if I owned all the pro ass fucking gear idpay 50+ each way just to fly with that shit.

I can say from 10 years of experience that this is the way to go, if you intend on returning. Rental boots blow, demo or not.

international feel, huge acreage, tallest vertical, and rockin' nightlife.

I've never owned skis or poles, but after about 2 rentals of boots, I bought a nice pair and take them with me when I go. It's been a lean couple of snow years in Cali, but I think I bought my boots at least 25 years ago, so a solid investment.

Good ski resorts for a budget? Trying to stay at about $1,000 a head for 5 days of skiing. All need rentals, 3 learn to ski, 1 a morning lesson. I was thinking Killington. Ideas?

In Park City, UT they have services that will come to where you are staying, size you up to ensure that everything is as needed and will have it waiting for you at the slopes.

I felt that it was very, very convenient.

I don't see other major resorts not having something like this.

Good Canadian resorts that speak english, and are good for first time skiers? I have 3 adults doing this first time. Was looking at Killington. 5 days lodging, lessons, skiing, all included except food and transportation is under 4 grand for 5 people.

Killington for life!!!!!! Need anything Killington-related, I'm your guy.

They actually just replaced most of the snow-making machines this year. The capacity of the new ones is insane.

If you're doing VT, then Killington is a solid bet. If you're looking for a more refined place with a village, then look at Stratton and Stowe (more expensive). Be prepared to shell-out nearly $100/day for each adult lift ticket; not sure what children's rates are.

Other places: Colorado, Utah, Tahoe, Jackson Hole, etc.

Colorado is great, Whistler is great. But for quality and variety you've gotta do Utah. 5 mountains within a 30 min drive from Salt Lake City, more a bit further.

Perfect. I've been going there since 1981. I grew up with Donna and Joy weinbrect. We're planning on sometime in February or March to do a midweek at the Killington grand.

Sweet! Let me know if you need any tips. My father made his bucks here and then moved up there to open a bike shop on Killington. He's always psyched to ride with new people.

Cool. Trying to nail down the week. Restaurant advice is the most needed. I can't seem to nail down good dinner places. I went to one that was by the bottom of bear somewhere once. Had a real rustic feel like a barn with a fireplace and salad bar. Had wild game and hearty stuff but I couldn't find it again. It was like 20 years ago though.

I recommend Vail - Im there each March. The great thing with ski school is that after lessons are over they don't enforce you using their lift ticket to get on the mountain. I believe a 3 day school was about $400, compared to 3 days of lift tickets at $450 ($150/day). Rentals can be had for less than $50/day. Shop around Vail village for best results. The only thing would be housing (not sure if this is included in your $1k) and getting to Vail (Colorado mountain express I think is 30 each way per person).

I've also found I never ski 5 consecutive days - it's quite the workout at that elevation. I've only been to killington once and it was too icy for me - i snowboard.

Was it a party place? Wobbly Barn or Pickle Barrel? Actually might have been The Foundry; pretty rustic. Sushi Yoshi is great. The owner (Nate) is a friend and is a huge sponsor of community events. Especially beer-related races.

If you're willing to make the 30 minute trip to Woodstock, Bentley's is awesome. I think it's semi-famous actually. There's also Harpoon Brewery in Windsor. They serve food there, unlike the one in Boston.
