The 720s is already stupid fast. This thing is going to destroy its rivals: 488 pista and huracan performante.

It will eat the (NA) Huracan for breakfast.:-)

But you did not mention the 991 GT2RS Weissach/Manthey.

Cheers

I think that's the best looking car in the McLaren line up.

I have always wondered what gives these top-end cars the blue flame exhaust.

Exhaust heat? A blue flame is hotter than an orange flame, and since these are hypercars, the exhaust gases will inevitably be hotter than most "normal" performance oriented cars. Couple the "hypercar" performance with the short exhaust (since it's mid engine), and that's where they come from. Just one persons somewhat educated guess though.

Only car I've seen shoot a blue flame IRL was a 1200whp Nismo GTR, former boss of mine.

Sounds reasonable. But most cars don't shoot flames at all. My lotus will shoot 8-foot orange flames, but there are no cats. How a car with cats creates so much flame is beyond me. There should no literally no fuel there to burn.

I must be the only one a bit "meh". i appreciate the engineering but so many of these cars are so fast now it's a bit .. i dunno .. sameish. I would honestly say that for pure road driving i'd prefer a 911 GTS and on a track, with that money, i'd just get an open wheeler.

some of it is marketing for street cars. Just dumping extra fuel that can make it past the cat and ignite for flames and pops/crackles.

some of it is for safety. Better to run a slightly richer mixture, especially in a high boost turbo car, than a slightly leaner mixture which could grenade your motor. Extra fuel going through the engine also helps keep temps down.

But ideally cars shouldn't spit flames or pop and crackle, its just wasted energy/fuel.. F1 cars don't do this.

would be interesting but i'd still put my money on McLaren. A base 720 is comparable to a GT2RS.

hmm I stand corrected. what years are these cars? but regardless what I said is still true. the teams try to remove these flames as much as possible because you are just burning up fuel for no reason, rather than using that heat to turn the crank and drive the wheels.

This is kind of Sci-fi looking, I guess I'm a child but I think that's pretty wicked.

Just did some more research and you're right, it's literally the temperature of the flame, with blue being hotter than orange.

So running rich for safety, and exhaust/sound/tune/marketing (probably), and the temp.

Exclamation

Quote:
McLaren 765LT became the newest longtail model of the British brand. Based on the 720S, which constantly impresses us on the track, the model has lost weight and turned into a more special supercar thanks to McLaren’s skilled engineers. Deliveries of the new LT model, of which only 765 will be produced, will begin in September 2020. The 765LT will be able to produce 765 hp and 800 Nm of torque using McLaren’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. It will transfer this output power to its wheels with its 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The vehicle will shift up to 15 percent faster than 720S. According to the data shared by McLaren 765LT; It will complete 0-100 km / h acceleration in 2.8 seconds and 0-200 km / h acceleration in 7.2 seconds.

The new longtail model, which is 80 kilograms lighter than the current model, has a weight of 1229 kilograms. Equipped with dense carbon fiber, the vehicle has been lightened thanks to titanium exhaust systems and thinned windows.
