my BMW dealer assigns a random service advisor for every visit?
I don't know if this is something new, but I've been dealing with car dealer service departments for well over 40 years. All of them assign a service advisor to each customer on a permanent basis.(until the advisor no longer works there)
My BMW, however, seems to work differently. They assign a random service advisor during each visit. I just get whoever is open when I pull my car into the service bay... then I deal with that person during the entire visit(either same day or over multiple days). If I go back the next day for a different issue, then another random advisor is assigned. Not really a big deal to me as a customer. However, I became curious when I was chatting with my most recent advisor who happened to know my co-worker. Turned out that she was my co-worker's sister-in-law's stepsister. Anyway, she told me that they don't get a cut or a commission from the repair bill. The dealership's owner apparently pay them a fixed salary. (kind of like Best Buy employees?) I've been going to this BMW dealership for about 6 years and I've dealt with at least 7 or 8 different advisors over the years.(a new one each time) do other BMW dealers do this? |

If you find an advisor you like, you can always ask for them I believe. Obviously you might have to wait longer if they are busy dealing with other customers.

I have only used one SA at my dealer. My friends who go there also have had only one SA for years. My guy knows me and goes out of his way to squeeze me in when I need a particular date/ time for a service visit.

I have only one service advisor I use. I book it on their website not on My BMW.

I found an SA I like and I only work with her at local dealership for the last 6-7 years.
Before that apparently I had no preference in my profile cause I was assigned to just whoever was there and free.

You can request a specific person, but be prepared to wait if they're already helping another person. Also they may not be working on days you come in.

Found one I like and I stick with him. Not all SA's are created equal. Best to have a long-term relationship with a good one. IMHO.

Here in Germany one service advisor is assigned to me, but when he is unavailable (vacation, ill, training) and I have a request, I always am experiencing an extremely friendly commitment (sometimes more than with my "own" SA). As if they wanted to prove that they all are equal (the mood between them seems to be very well).
So I try to let them know that i'm not picky and that it's not a negative selection when I prefer "my" SA, it is only convenient to not have to lose so much words explaining what I and my car need.
