Damn, this thread makes me want to get a dog so bad. I really want to adopt a retriever mix, but just afraid that it won't be ideal since I live alone and at work most of the week.

I can't post a picture of my dog, since I don't have one (To my constant dismay), but this is my aunt's new pup, a Wheaten Terrier, named Chili. She's way, way too cute and fluffy.

notice the resemblance?

not fair to the dog and yourself. once you get a dog, your life revolves around the dog because he/she can't live without you. you just can't leave for the weekend on the whim anymore. i've had my pup for almost 13 years and it's been a big commitment. most of the time, i didn't even live in a house with a backyard. don't get me wrong, i love him but it's a ton of responsibilities both financially and physically.

I am pretty lucky to have a real calm and lazy dog. I can go on vacation for a week straight with no1 home and he'll just chill in the house and goes shit and piss in the backyard, gets food from auto feeder and a big pot of water and sleep all day. So it is possible to go on vacation you just need to be lucky to pick a breed that doesn't suffer from too much separation anxiety and properly train him.
That being said if I lock the door between the garage (where he sleeps) and my house for more than 3 days, he will claw on the door until his nails break off. Pitbulls are fucking stubborn as fuck.
