Why a 528/535?

I have an "acquaintance" who recently got a 535i and I asked her "So what made you chose a 535i instead of a 335i?" To which she replied "It looks nicer"

So it got me wondering, why do others chose a 528i/535i instead of 328i/335i? Is it size? Design? Nicer Interior?

Disclaimer: This is not a thread to start a war, I just geniuely want to hear 5 series' owners opinion

my decision was based on 2 car seats and wide shoulders. I chose a 550i because I did not want turbos to wear out at 80k miles

When you come right down to it, none of the BMW line now a days will win any beauty contest.

I've wanted 335 for about 2 years. It finally came to a reality a few months ago. I've driven several manual 335i's and I knew I love that vehicle. When I got there they also had a 550i and honestly I agonized back and forth between the 2. I drove them both a couple of times. I kep thinking I love how the 335 drives but I liked the size of the 550. Not being able to make up my mind the salesman offered me to try a 535. I was hooked. I actually liked the feel of the 535 almost as much, but not quite, as the 335, but I still felt the size of the 5 was far more practical. I do have a family. More room in the front, more room in the rear. I sacrificed a smidgeon of fun.

I honestly can't say why the 550i didn't do it for me. It felt heavier to me, didn't feel as snappy in handling to me. I think I just love the feel of that in-line 6 with 2 turbos. So sweet!

If it were only ever me in the car I think I'd be driving a 335i today.

I have a 335i (e92) and 528i (e60) and i can tell you they are completely different cars. The 5 (non-sport) is a super quiet, smooth, very comfortable ride that is sporty-ish for a very soft and comfy ride, while the 335i has less body roll and gives much much more feedback but is no where near as comfortable and quiet as the 5 is. The interior in the 5 is nicer by far. I chose the 335i for myself and the 528i for my wife. Different strokes for different folks.

I came out of a 550 sport and am now in an M3 sedan. The M makes the 550 feel like a Buick.
