Burbank multiple fatality traffic collision - Aug 3 - street racing

Seems like 19 yr old (in Kia) and 17 yr old (in Mercedes) racing --- VW was torn in half; just terrible.

Some of the photos and videos are horrifying.

3 dead, 1 more with critical injuries (from 3rd vehicle, VW):

Not really - the article reminded me to talk to my kids about decisions that can completely change your life.

Posted about it here in case others find the information a helpful reminder.

Too old for street racing anymore but we used to do it back in the day. I'm not going to suggest we were interested in safety so much as avoiding the cops but we never raced through populated areas with traffic.

Even my 19 year old self would have called this road a very high risk for prison and/or cemetery time. And I was dumb as a stump. Still am.

Did it three times on my bike.

The last time I accelerated and got up to 145 mph on a country back road straight away against a guy on a Harley.

Let's just say it felt like I entered a time warp and I had NO IDEA my bike could get up that fast.

1200cC bike ain't nothing to mess with.

I confessed to my husband.

Put the bike up for 5 mos.
Never again

Condolences to those lost.. I've been the idiot before..

In my first ever car some Ford saloon I was driving around country lanes drinking cans of beer thinking about things like Joel Goodson was in Risky Business film and I skidded head on through a bush and hit a tree but gently. I threw out the beer and reversed out and made it back home into the garage.
Next day there was a crunched wing and bumper and no front reg plate which was left well into the bush and out of sight.

This is awesome, when I was a kid and my dad was pissed off he'd grab me to go driving and he'd pickup a six pack and drink it while he was driving around ranting.

I do not do that, but appreciate that it once was.

Ah yes I remember now it was Carlsberg Special Brew and after I got the car back from the panel shop I went back to the hit spot and collected the hidden beer cans and the number plate

What a tragedy, 3 kids not even involved are the ones that had to pay the biggest price.

When people protest an incident that has befallen, there is little or nothing that can be done. Laws already exist, tragedy has occurred. The rest of us are working, going to school, taking care of home whatever. The protestors are out calling for people to not street race like it’s the Indy 500 while those will break the law, will still do it. Those are the people I was referring to.

An Infinity asked me to race at a stop light just 2 nights ago. I politely said "Nah, I'm good!" He was disappointed but complimented my car and we drove away at a normal pace when the light turned green. No egos hurt, no lives lost... there is no point to proving anything with street racing. Take it to the track.

Definitely the saddest part, and what seems to happen a lot in incidents like these. RIP

Very sad. Hopefully those kids and their families go bankrupt paying out a settlement to the loved one's of the passed, and that they get charged with any degree of murder. Knowing California's pitiful justice system, I would not be surprised if the minor will get probation and the "adult" child will plead down to a manslaughter charge. Hopefully they go to trial and get the book thrown at them - absolutely zero excuse.

But the ignorance isn't.
This type of behavior is unnecessary and avoidable. If someone wants to race, join a local SCCA club and hit the track.

Terrible stuff, it can happen anywhere.

But LA is a crazy place full of batshit insane people. Too much chaos, too many people who don't give a f*ck. Doesn't surprise me.

This is why I leave the racing to the highway. No streets, trees, or anyone to pull out infront of you while you've got the pedal on the floor. Poor Volkswagon likely didn't have time to get out of the way or see them. :\
