Again, a semi-auto rifle will only piss larger animals off. You do not want an AR15 or AK rifle.

Imagine trying to down a Rhino with a .223 while he is charging at you at 40mph. Good luck with that. LMAO.

However here is one semi-auto rifle I would take and I would consider it above decent.

HAHA thanks for all your comments, Why hello my American friends, lol I wish I could carry guns in the back country here in B.C. Canada. A hand gun here I think is a restricted weapon and to have one is a huge hassle. I did have mace but didn't use it clearly.

Agreed a leash is a must and I didn't carry one that day, my bad :S

This is a black bear and they are timid, MY boxer actually chases them out of my yard at times; however, This bear clearly wouldn't leave that tree. In fact I believe she was trying to also clime it. Each time she tried jumping up to climb my dog would lung causing her to refrain from doing so. a bluff charge and my dog smartened up, and finally that last bluff charge which I actually censored out the only full automatic part of this video which was my use of profanity.

Hope you all enjoyed my scare and learnt to stay safe and avoid smoky.

Take Care

I got a semi auto .308. While yes bear calibers are more around 30-06, 7mm rem magnum, etc... Well I'm in cali and only have 10 rounder for my .308 but in other states with a 30 round mag or even 20 round mag in .308 i'd feel pretty safe.

godddaaaamn, this video was soooo good !!!!!

you're from Canada but sound like a Mobster - but then look like a Saudi HAHAHA !!!!

that would have been a sickening experience for me. my dog would have saw, ran and hit, no questions asked.

probably would have lost my dog but he would have protected me and given me the chance of survival.

your dad is a boss - seriously.

you can't expect to call a dog off a massive object like that - it's been inbedded in their genes for centuries upon centuries.

but man, this video had me hooked from the get-go...

glad your safe - and your reaction after you took off running is classic HAHAHA !!!!

for the last 10 seconds of the video I was laughing - even my 4 year old daughter walks up to me and says "daddy, why you laughing for ??"

Agreed on the .308.

I was assuming you were talking about .223. A lot of folks on gun forums talk about using a AR15 with a 100 round drum. IMO .223 is a strong round but not for larger game.

Again with a Rhino charging at 40 mph or a Brown Bear charging you at 25 mph, I can almost bet you wont get a shot off, let alone a precision exact shot to the weak side of the bears head.

So YES, a .45 is too small a round. I hunted for years in Alaska and never carried a small .45 out there.

I even have a KRISS SBR Super V with 30 rounds of .45 ACP with low recoil and I wouldn't even bring that gun with us. Sometimes the game is just to big for "Call of duty" type of guns.

So do not take this...

To hunt this...

Or this..

Or you will end up like this...

Any questions?

no one in the right mind is going to carry a big ass rifle walking their dog in the woods.. OP had ample time if he was carrying a .45 to aim if the he felt the bear was going to charge him. .45 vs Rhino, of course it would work but with a bear I am sure you can get a few shots in the upper part of the body in his position.

We carry shotguns with slugs. I also have a Casul 454 which is a much better round. Shotguns aren't big ass rifles. I take one when I go on hikes or walks in the country with my dog. I live in states that allow you to bring 15 round shotguns into the forrest.

Why would you shoot a bear that is not bothering you as in this video? I wouldn't have. It was not a threat. Plus bears are not going to stand up straight and say kill me. You will have to work for the kill, unless they are asleep.

And a .45 would not stop a Rhino. Period. This is not even up for debate.

I am not saying the .45 will not eventually kill a bear or Rhino, yeah anything with enough lead in them will eventually succumb. I want a 1-2 shot kill. Not a 5-15 shot kill.

Just remember..the .45 will kill a bear ... trouble is, that the bear may kill you before it dies.

There is a story out of Seattle with a 300+ pound black bear where a guy shot 3 shots of 45 into it and it kept coming and mauled him. Do you want that? I don't.

^^scary shit.

OP didn't say if he was jogging or not. More difficult to carry an adequate animal gun but not impossible. But it's a mute point because it sounds like carrying concealed where he lives is a no-no. I love Canada.

That being said, when I'm in "bear country" I will have my 4" .357 magnum or my Glock 20 in 10mm.

Now that was funny. Throwing a sandal at a pit bull. Priceless but you are spot on.

As much as I want to say the KRISS Super V would kill a 1200 pound bear on looks alone, it just isn't happening. Reality is most of us would turn and run our asses off if either of these two animals charged us.

The only way I would stand my ground would be if I had a 12 gauge with slugs and/or 454 Casul in hand.

Would a .357 stop a bear though? Let's take rhino's out of the picture shall we...not the original topic, and you clearly need some heavy stuff to stop them, unless we are talking a baby rhino.

I don't know...a .357 doesn't seem like it would be *much* better than a .45 even though the velocity and ft / lb is higher with a .357. I don't know, I've shot both, couldn't say, wouldn't want to be in that position.

And I too love Canada.

Doc,

Found the story. It was in Oregon. Its at the bottom where the bear was shot in the head and kept coming.

Scary shit indeed... Also it was 4 rounds total.

I know one sure fire way to take care of any bear or rhino. This technique has worked for me every time over the last 30 years.

Don't go where the fucking bears and rhinos live.

This method can also be used for elephants, hippos and tigers.

For animal defense you want high velocity, flat trajectory. It's all about penetration baby.
