M4 vs. C63S vs. 911C4 Launch control battle

Take it for what it's worth boys. But I will still take the M4.

This driver doesn't know that you can adjust the RPM rev points. Hence too much wheel spin. Even though he launched it too high, the M4 did its thing. The 911 was AWD. No contest.

In an actual drag race though... you would have the car ready to go and reving before the flag drops though... right? They would say go and then you would have to change into sport plus, dsc off etc etc You would already be mashing the gas and brake and just take off once they say go...

Wish the reviewer knew about lowering the RPMs to launch. Aren't there stock M3/4s pulling 11.9 1/4 miles?

I agree though, it's more of a gimmick than anything else. Maybe on cars with much more power it could come in handy though.

5600 miles on mine and I haven't attempted a start with launch control.

doesnt BMW's launch control limit wheelspin? seems a stretch to call it 'control' when all its really doing is holding revs.....

They might be gimmicks, but in a drag race you will have most of the steps done. High powered cars use delay boxes I think.

they are not gimmicks all the time. Sure maybe you arent going to be able to put them into launch mode at the lights. But in real competitive driving you will be able to use it.

the point he is making that traditional manual is easier and faster to get going then all the set ups of LC.
there is a similar comparo of Mitsu Evo and Subi STI from Top Gear, Clarkson had to get manuals out to get it to LC

What a waste of time. This scenario will NEVER happen on the streets or a race track. They gathered these 3 great cars together. At least they could have followed up with a straight up drag race at the end.

agreed. I think it's an incredibly appealing car. I'd take one in the GT silver with the GTS interior package. nothing else needed. saw one on the street the other day, and pictures don't come close to doing justice to the road presence the car has - to my eyes, it's easy to see the differences to a Carrera S.

No matter what you do with your LC. The M4 will loose either way.

I've made a couple of wicked launches too with traction off lol a couple times I almost shoved it up a curb. Still love my 6MT. anyone can mash a pedal when the flag drops..but to launch a 6MT takes a bit more skill.

Porsches have really good launch control. Tried launch control in my friends rear wheel drive carrera s and there wasnt any wheel spin at all.

I might be in the minority but jeez I like the merc exterior styling less and less every time I see the C-class.

I see it as the muscle saloon to the M3s sport saloon. But it doesn't look the muscle part. Still a fantastic overall package though.
