A GR-series V6 will need only basic maintenance (oil changes, plugs, filters) and fuel to run to 300,000km. How many BMW engines can even come close to that level of reliability? Lexus/Toyota customers want that reliability, and don't care so much about 0-60 times or overall HP number, compared to BMW drivers who are more obsessed with stats and tolerate more frequent visits to the service department and out-of-warranty repair costs.
Nobody buys these cars because consumers are not dumb. 57% of Lexus sales are lease so reliability is not an issue.
LS sales haven fallen off a cliff. It actually used to outsell the MB Sclass in past.
GS is dead as 2020 is last year.
RC rumored to be discontinued due to poor sales.
LC was DOA and will be discontinued.
IS is now on its 2nd refresh and sales have never been worse.

Lexus is lost and Genesis has more compelling products now.
Only Lexus models that sell are the cheap rebadged Toyotas- RX, ES and NX.

I own a 2019 GX460, and only thing that it has going for it is reliability. It has been on the same architecture since 2010. Infotainment is from mid-2000s, and everything feels antiquated. But Lexus has it's followers and GX460, NX, and RX sales is what's keeping things alive at Lexus. Can't wait for the Genesis GV80 to hit the market, and once my GX460 is paid off, I am getting a GV80, or Hyundai Palisade.

Saw this last night. This actually has my attention of a next potential own. I'll give it a few years before I pull the trigger though.

There is some debate on the Lexus forum whether it will be the NA V8 or the same TT V6 found in the LS500.

Hmm to each and their own. I'll gladly defend Toyota because they are good at what they do, although I do think slapping a TRD badge on everything is ridiculous, but I stand by their products.

My current cars are: E36 M3, E92 M3, Z4M Roadster (all of them manuals) and surprise surprise, a 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum that I bought used. Feel free to call me someone that isn't a car enthusiast

I'm in a very fortunate position where I can own and store all these cars, and prefer to have the right car for the job vs only owning 1 that has to try to be good at everything. Why the Tundra? It's comfy, it has enough towing capacity for my needs and most importantly, it's hilariously reliable. Take a look at the forums and the most you'll see pretty much the only issues are oil leaks from cam towers and some issues with radar cruise control (which mine doesn't have). I did brake and rotors and parts came out to $147.

The truck is a dinosaur. 6 speed auto and gets around 13-14 mpg avg. I don't care. The drivetrain for this thing has not changed since 2007, therefore it's proven. There's a guy that infamously got 1 million miles out of his and only big repair was transmission overhaul after 600k miles. There's one guy on the forums with 500k miles plus and still running original trans and diff fluid. There has got to be said about something as tough as that.

I'll be completely honest. The E36 and Z4M, as much as I enjoy owning them, would be sold before the Tundra if it came down to it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with having something dead reliable alongside with something fun if you have a choice.

P.S. Yes I plan to drive the Tundra until the wheels fall off or if gas becomes $4 per gallon.

Looks like we may get an ISF after all to give a last hoorah to the 5.0L V8 as we go deeper into the era of smaller displacement turbocharged engines and EVs

I still think the original looked best, and you could get a 2JZ I6 and a Manual! And the gauges were awesome with the watch inspired design.

My mom, who has went through countless cars, has kept this one. She actually owned pretty much every iteration of the IS and GS but the original IS300 is still in garage. Every time she drives one of the newer versions she always says that the old one is better. I suspect it'll stay in the fleet forever.

The exterior is in great condition but the dash has somehow got "sticky" in the sense that the plastic is seemingly dissolving. Car has barely 80k and it's a 2002. Other than the dash materials, great car.

I would highly consider the V6TT as my next car bc I’m over the M3/C63/RS5 category. Not interested in monster hp and a stiff loud ride anymore. As I get older I just want something sporty but not extreme. The LCI S4 has been sparking my interest but I’ll wait for this IS500.

I always found it so interesting that a few 1st gen IS350s got into the 13.3-13.5@101-103 range yet when the second gen came out with the same motor and nearly the same curb weight, it was solidly a lower 14-second at 98-100mph car. The IS-F also had some range of acceleration differences with the later year cars appearing to be slightly slower. So strange.

I do love the IS-F and strongly considered it before getting my M235. At the time, I still wanted a manual. This new gen IS looks great and if they really do make an IS-F variant with the 5.0 V8, I'm likely very interested. Great power and sound in a reliable sedan is ideal for a DD.

Nah, give me a harsh ride, a loud exhaust, high performance numbers and the looks to match. I'm old too, but I'm not dead. Quiet and comfortable are for daily drivers. Lexus and Audi don't interest me in the slightest.

Yeah I’ll have a Supra or Z in the near future for all that.

I thought like you until I took my F80 on a road trip.

The bucket seats killed my lower back in LA traffic.

I've occasionally taken my F80 to work in 1.5 hr LA traffic. Not as comfy as my i3 but it's bearable. I took it to Palm Springs a few times (2-3 hr drive) and it was fine. I will say that the non comp seats in my previous F80 were slightly more comfortable than the Comp/CS seats simply due to the lumbar support.

It was a drive from SF to SD. Got caught up in 2 hr + traffic in LA. Took a total of 10 hours of driving.

Learned my lesson after that trip and took my work truck for road trips. 10x more comfortable for long road trips.

If someone asked me which was the newer model I couldn't tell ya. That's a stunning shade of blue too!
