Samsung TV HDMI input stopped working

The TV is a 60" Samsung LCD that is about eight years old. My sound bar stopped working, and I thought it broke. But, I tried another sound bar using the same HDMI input and it doesn’t work either. I've also tried two different HDMI cables.

Is it possible that the HDMI input on the TV went bad?

Yup, happened to my RCA LED LCD TV, only 1 of the slots though. Possibly a bad/broken solder joint that could be fixed?

I just put a 55" onn brand TV in the kids game room. Was like $239 and Looks great to me.

Don't waste your time trying to fix or have someone come out, trust me, it's cheaper in the end.

New tvs are dirt cheap. You can probably get a new 60in 4k smart tv for around $400 from a respectable brand.

Hell ive heard nothing but good things about TCL and just looked 55in 4k smart tv for $275

I picked up a 55” 4K Samsung for our condo for $379 last year. But it’s not the cost that makes me pause for our main home. It’s the crawling around to connect it and programming the universal remote that stops me.

I have a 42" Panasonic plasma for about 14yrs also. That thing is a workhorse. It has been in my office waiting room where I play a looping DVD everyday, 8hrs a day, for eight years. The picture still looks the same as the day I got it and I've had zero problems. All of my LCD flat screen TV's have crapped out around the six year mark. I just got a 65in Samsung 4k for under $500 for my outside patio.

If you have Comcast, the remote learning process is so easy. I used to have program remotes with macro functions and it was a PITA.

Yep. I have a 14 year old Pioneer plasma in our family room too. Those old plasma TVs were really good TVs. The newer 4K TVs, even cheap ones, do look much better. But I’m not up for dealing with switching them per post above.

I have DirecTV and a Universal Remote with software on a CD I’d need to find and deal with (or just but a new universal remote, which is more likely).

Get a Harmony remote. You plug it into your computer, easily select your equipment and what you want turned for each activity. I’ve had one for years, super easy setup.

sounds like the board took a shit bro. easy to replace but if you open your tv yourself you could void the warranty. i'm guessing tho because it's 8 years old there is no warranty. boards can run anywhere from $50+ depending where you can source it from.

I just went through the exercise of buying a couple of new TVs. I had to replace the 55" LG LCD I had at my vacation home as the ex had to have it as part of the divorce settlement. So I ended up getting a TCL 55" 6 series which was last year's model. So far have been pretty happy with it. It uses Roku as the interface and has an app for my phone to provide a virtual remote that also gives more advanced options. David Katzmaier who is a very respected TV reviewer for CNET published his video calibration settings which I used on my TV. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the built in TV speakers. The sound quality was so bad my ears were bleeding which forced me to get a soundbar.

The other TV I bought is a 43" Hisense. When reading up on reviews of TVs to replace the 55" LG, I ran across discussions of Hisense. They're the direct competitor to TCL. I decided to give them a try and I've been pretty pleased as well with this purchase. The picture quality is pretty good. I found some calibration settings for a similar model Hisense and used that on this TV. The built in speakers are decent but not great. I'm ok with that as it's for my bedroom. The TV uses Android TV as the interface.

New TV's being cheap is a myth. The cheap ones are absolute rubbish both in build quality and picture quality. Once you start to step it up a little the prices climbs quickly.

I just bought a 65 inch LCD and getting anything decent under $1,000CDN was impossible.

I'd go for the Glock, since most people are cutting off cable TV due to the lack of decent content outside of live sporting events. With Arsenal's season wrapping up tomorrow and probably only three Bills games broadcast down here, I could buy season tickets for less than the cable TV bill!

Seriously, the only time that my wall-mounted Samsung gets turned on these days is when the guy down the street wants to review my NVR security camera footage after seeing a strange car making a U-turn in his driveway. Come to think of it, I think that he could use a new Glock as well.....

Harmony is the best. I have a few, but my kids kept dropping them and breaking them.

It really depends on what your criteria are. The TCL and Hisense TVs I bought were dirt cheap compared to the two Pioneer Elite plasmas I have. But they're pretty damn good. Especially when they're calibrated. I cheaped out and used published calibration settings which don't reflect what is going on with the TVs I have. But I'm not going to pay a few hundred for someone to do an ISF calibration on these TVs. I did pay that to dial in both of my Pioneers.

The only thing I'm not sure of with these TVs is the reliability. But the TVs I bought are being used in places where they're not going to get the same usage as my other ones. And by the time these things take a dump, there will be much newer tech out.

I'll be getting a more reference level TV next year. I've settled on OLED. It'll go in my A/V room and I'll move the Pioneer 141FD I have there up to the family room replacing the Pioneer 1010HD that's there now.
