Top Gear interviews BMW Head of Design Domagoj Dukec

In Top Gear issue no. 330 there is an interview with BMW design director Domagoj Dukec. He said, in part, regarding the new grills:

"BMW is a play between elegance and dyanmism. Some are elegant, some are expressive."

The 8 series is relatively elegant; the new 4 series and M3/M4 are obviously on his scale as dynamic, not elegant.

What is wrong with this man? Does he really think that folks spending upwards of $70K don't care about elegance? Do his bosses at BMW really think that its buyers want ugly? Does he really think that buyers will opt for the 8 series at more than $100K to avoid the ugly?

Time will tell.

This is how these large grilles look like to me:

Might have been an inspiration for this design. That huge grill looked very classy in 1977 movie:

Idk, maybe these huge grilles will work in the long run. Everybody will eventually come around

Wow, WTF.

These people at BMW apparently do not live in the real world anymore. THEY HAVE ASCENDED!
