M3P is head and shoulders above M340i is every aspect related to actual movement in space, not just acceleration. The only way not to notice it is to have never tried. This is not my personal opinion - an M3P just won BS in Solo Nationals last month. This is the class with M2s, M4s, 987 S - the cars that no one here would ever argue handle worse than M340i.

BTW, the 0-60 party trick never gets old. Because in reality it's a 0-40 party trick, which you can legally do on the street over and over and over again. Street lights were created by God because she knew one day we would have EVs.

Oh, and Model 3's interiors suck. There's no argument here.

M3P is supposed to compete with M3/4 but costs about the same and actually less than M340i after tax rebate, though BMW prices are negotiable and I've heard of folks getting 10 percent off msrp.

The Model 3 just wasn't that fun or engaging to drive. Instant torque was amazing don't get me wrong, but aside from that it was pretty vanilla to me. To your point about the interior, I just can't imagine spending 70k on a car and have the interior "suck". That makes no sense to me.

Totally agree here. I rented a model 3 for a week once, and it felt like I was driving a really fast kitchen appliance. As fast as it is, it's completely lifeless. Bare interior except for that giant iPad, questionable quality of materials, and a drive that was sterile. Technically impressive, but didn't invoke any feeling of joy (or any emotion for that matter) once you get over the instant torque.

Steering is better. Cornering is better. Traction control is smarter. I truly can't understand how one can miss all of that after five test drives.

I don't know where the $70K price tag comes from. M3P starts at $57K. The most expensive configuration (red on white, FSD) is $66K.

When I had it on order it was 72k MSRP (Dec 2018). The config that I originally wanted (White on White), is now 64k with FSD. Regardless of the price fluctuation, spending more than 50k on that interior would be crazy in my opinion

You have to factor in EV tax rebate as well so it would cost less. It's not for everyone though regardless of price. A used model s might be a better deal.

Steering was as light as it could be in the M3P, cornering was certainly not better, and traction control seems to be perfectly balanced on the M340 according to every reviewer on the planet so far.

I think my 72k number had the EV tax rebate factored in at the time but can't remember for certain. Regardless, I got 9% off my 62.5k MSRP M340 before incentives, which is quite a bit lower than you can get a M3P for.

I totally get it, I think Teslas are awesome as everyday driver's vehicles, range is enough for most people, comfortable, full of tech, and autopilot makes traffic a breeze, but for a sports car, its fun but it lacks some emotion or engaging aspects like shifting gears, revving out an engine, exhaust note etc. But they have created some great cars that have most definitely impacted and influenced the auto industry heavily!

1000% this. Not a Tesla hater in the slightest, I had one on order because I love the tech and direction of EVs. The reason I am so happy with my M340 so far because it has such a good mix of daily driving comfortability, its packed with cool technology (HUD/live cockpit for example), and also has a great engine that sounds and performs extremely well.

Actually the MP3 base price without EV incentives is $56990 currently on the site.

-$1875 EV Credit is still more than I paid for the M340 by a few thousand. My point still goes back to paying anything over 50k for an interior like the TM3 has is just something I could never do...outside of the drawbacks mentioned throughout the thread.

If you do the math $62.5 minus 9 percent of that is $56875. So just under the base price of M3P before $1875 credit. You must have gotten a little more than 9 percent to get to below $55k net. But yes having a bland interior and no exhaust note might not be worth more than $50k or any price if that bothers you. A speedometer in the center display only and no HUD or wireless charging or Apple CarPlay seems out of place at that price point.

I got 3k in incentives from BMW so thats where the additional cost savings is coming that I am comparing. Those things you allude to are definite misses at that price point.

Balanced - probably (BMW engineers are good). As smart as what you can get with two independent motors with 10ms throttle response - never (even BMW engineers can't beat physics).

Awfully strong opinion against the M340 considering you're in a BMW forum.

I'll leave you to your M3P...enjoy

I actually really liked a lot about the model 3 when I drove it, I just had my own concerns about the company itself. Also concerned about the build quality and want more maturation of the product. (It is also just.... so ugly)

Besides 15 years of BMW ownership and some auto-x connections, I also have some credit here with the mods.

I drive a non-P dual motor, which is actually a better match for your M340xi because it has only 360hp.

And since you're paying so much attention to costs, here's the full picture on the Tesla side. My car cost $45K after incentives. A home charging system cost $1200. Instead of $250/mo for gas I now pay an extra $100/mo to the electrical company, so every year of ownership is -$1800. There are some people with very high mileage Model 3s now, and their only expense seems to be new tires, so all the costs of BMW ownership that now start at 3 years will be non-existent. So if I keep my car for 5-7 years like I'm planning to, the TCO will be closer to a dealer lot filler 330i with no options.
