i'm taking a vacation to LA next week. Rented a 2018 TTRS off turo for the last day. i've driven so many types of performance car engines but never had a 5 cylinder. should be fun.

Wonder if that speeds up US allocations?

Yeah I haven't heard of this. Kind of strange that this isn't driven by emissions requirements or anything like that.

I also think it's for supply/allocation reasons and that it will be back for MY2023. They do sell quite well up here...

I just love the engine. The only redeeming quality about these nose heavy pigs is that engine.

I know we're in the other brands forum, but since we're still on the BMW forum, this response loses a lot of traction. I mean, Audi is bad, but…

This grill is far, far larger than anything BMW is doing. It pretty well covers the entire front end. I know it's cool on this forum to hate BMW's latest grilles but let's be a little realistic here. If you hate the BMW grilles, this is a total abomination.

I saw the new S3 in person and that rear bumper plastic shit looks like hell. I don't mind the front bumper and the new proportions look pretty decent. I have a '19 RS3 and love the car but I hate the dealer. Can't get my nav fixed without getting my shit flagged.

Part of me is still tempted to grab a new TTRS and set up a all-out half mile car.

For me it's not the size of the new grills on the M3/4 it's the shape. Everyone is doing large grills, it's just whether it's horrible or not. I just picked up a 2022 RS5 and it has a big grill, but it looks pretty decent (in my opinion anyways).

That's funny, and it does sound good as it has a unique rumble because it's so odd and not intrinsically smooth.

Biggest cringe for me is when car reviewers say it sounds awesome "a V10 cut in half".
I always say, sometimes out loud: "yeah, like a 4 is a V8 cut in half".

And that's exactly how they compare and sound. V10s have this raspiness and the 5 inline or V5 have a rumble because it's imbalanced.

Awesome sounding though.

Ehhhhh I dunno. BMW new grill is just awful but goes the impression they tried and failed. Audi grill looks like they just mailed it in and didn’t care. Not sure which is worse LOL.

Looks good, nice car. I prefer the grill on your car over the '22 RS3 grill, but for me either look better than just about anything BMW is putting out and it's not even close. The RS3 front would probably look better if the surround were body-colored instead of black.

It's because what BMW is doing doesn't "fit". Exceptionally large vertical intakes/grille just makes no sense, the entire hood and front of the car is a more horizontal structure. Trying to fit in vertical kidneys the height of the distance of the bumper to top of the facia structure is a square peg in a round hole.

What Audi is doing on the other hand is gorgeous.

In any case, both are extremely large . I do believe that car specs, engine/performance and confort , have to be considered before exterior look.

Especially on a vanity/emotional type purchase. This isn't a commercial truck we're talking about.
