I daily drive a '97 Tacoma extra cab, 5 speed. I think a lot of people on this forum save the BMWs for nice days, special events, date nights, etc. I live outside of Atlanta, there is 0.000000% chance I'd street park either one of my BMWs downtown. That's asking for trouble.

I used to, but then I moved to the south and the E91 became whatever could count as a "winter beater" when I cant ride the motorcycles.

Ive never had an issue. I uber if planning on getting plastered but I often park in the hoods in Edgewood, Deactur, by the Clermont, Little 5. Admittedly I almost never take my car "downtown" but I guess east of downtown on Memorial might count, but everyone has parking lots there.

Yeah I dont get going really shitty like an old honda or something. Like a regular 3 series vs a new M4 maybe, but Im not rolling in a car with 4 speakers and shitty seats by choice.

Eh I used to drive my dads 98 Camry. So, another 98 Camry for 4-5 months won't bother me

That was my first car back in high school. It had 100K miles and I picked it up for $5K. Served its purpose well at that age. But it also had paper thin doors, unsafe handling, lacked modern conveniences, etc. I never drive one at this stage of life.

My parents brought ours back in 1997 before I was born. Drove it for 22 years before they sold it for $2500 with 185k on the clock.

Thing was a tank. 0 issues except for rust.

No, my wife's family is the only connection I have to that region of Ohio.

Jeep Wrangler - winter beater, rainy day, parking in town car.

Plus it's pretty fun and I don't care at all if it gets a ding or dent unlike my other cars which I wouldn't even drive with a scratch

How little I care about my beater

Funny, I'm looking at a 1999 Toyota Camry with 159k miles on it. Got the guy down to $1800.

Still iffy about a beater tho. Just an added cost but keep the 540 looking new

Yeah, easy for you to say living in Atlanta and LA - Here in Upstate NY one season in the salt and its never the same. OK for the 228iX, but not the M2C.

Yeah but a 228xi is no beater. Good choice.

Keeping the 540 looking sharp would motivate me if I still lived where I had to drive it on salted or snowy roads.

You definitely need a beater up there, especially with an M2C.

That's what my Tundra was for me in New Hampshire. I took care of it pretty well and still qualified for Toyota's full frame replacement for gen 2 snowbelt Tundras.

I just feel like after winter I'll just be driving the beater instead of the BMW. Or should I sell the beater after winter?

Here's the link to the camry: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5664252916815/

Also looking at this one. But it's a 2 hour drive. Got him down to 2500

It's such a personal choice that it's hard to offer a useful opinion.

I daily drive the wife's 2015 Mazda 3 hatchback manual and use my BMW just for pleasure driving, including road trips. That's partly to preserve the BMW (for the next owner, of course! ), but also because the 450# lighter FWD MZ3 is much more fun to drive around town.

I just returned from a 3,800-mile road trip. The BMW was fantastic, while the MZ3 would have been satisfactory at best. To keep the car's weight down, Mazda left out a good deal of sound-deadening, and tire noise on some surfaces in that car is ridiculously loud. That's just one of the trade-offs for a modest $24K car.

Half of me is like " it's only a few thousand. I can make that up in a day or two. Plus, i dont have to worry about dents and running the car through a brush wash" Other half of me is like " I can keep that few thousand and drive the bmw. Plus, I'll be paying for a car I'm not driving"

Yeah, I get it - totally. Whatever you decide, let us know, and how it turns out.

Or I can sell the 540 and buy a E46 M3/E9x M3 or maybe an F80 M3.

So, are we to understand you won't need a winter beater for the M3?

I'll need one. So, I'll buy one of those Toyotas. I think I'm overthinking. It's a 540 AWD. They made millions of these things. It ain't a Bentley. I'll just drive it in the winter and clean it every week like I already do.
